And it is quite right that you can't shoot what you can't see, but don't make the mistake of thinking that just because you haven't been shot at, it means you haven't been seen, it doesn't, it just means you haven't been shot at.
I see people who haven't seen me all the time, they didn't know that I'd seen them because I didn't shoot at them and I didn't approach them.
I can guarantee you that, unless you are always on 0 pop servers, this has happened to you, and me, on countless occasions.
Stealth is indeed an important tool for survival within DayZ, but to suggest you can avoid detection, all the time, is just nonsensical.
You should absolutely play the game your way. KOS or don't KOS the choice is yours, approach people or don't, it's upto you.
But too suggest that the only reason anyone is a victim of KOS is because they where seen, and suggesting that being unseen is the only way to avoid it is plainly false, not to mention, unachievable
If you want a gun fight with another player, give them a warning shot to start with, you can still maintain your advantage but now you have a decent challenge, and a proper fight.
If you don't want to fight but just want to remove the threat, real or imagined, then by all means KOS.
Just be honest with yourself as to why you have made that decision.Don't dress it up as a "life lesson" for that player because they don't happen to play using your prescribed method. That is disingenuous.
If you reflect on your recent deaths, I'll wager you were too.
Though the people who post on the forums about how they are always dying to KOS need to realize it's because they are always being seen. My way may not be perfect and i'm sure i'm seen once in a while. Though I'm also sure i'm seen a lot less than the average person and the amount of time i'm visable from any one direction is often very limited incase someone is trying to take a shot. i'd say at least 60% of my deaths are from me pissing off a group of 3 or more and just running out of cover to fall back to and shoot from. the amount of times i'm shot without knowing where the shot came from is maybe once a week
Check out the individual tactics in that page.
Staying safe can be a tedious task though.
Reflecting on my last two deaths, guy ran into a room I was in,applying a bandage to myself after a zombie snuck up on me, stuck his shotgun in my face and pulled the trigger, I think I managed to get "hello" out.
Before that one, all I heard was a shot, real close behind as I opened a door on the northern edge of Zelenogorsk.
I never have a weapon in my hands, if I have one, unless I'm about to use it. I favour civilian clothing over military.I purposefully try to avoid appearing as a threat.
But I do also take care to minimise my exposure and maintain awareness of my surroundings.
It's not a person being seen that decides whether or not they will be a victim of KOS, it's what the person spotting them decides, that will determine whether they are a victim of KOS.
If you choose to kill someone on sight, then own that decision. Don't tell people it's their fault because they weren't ninja enough or choose to play in a less militaristic way than you do.
DayZ is not a war by default.
As for the KOS debate, just take the S out of it :D
I used to play with 5-8 players and all the solo players wouldnt come near us, one time we found a hostile group of 20 players
