DayZ
EVR Storms in SA
If you played the Namalsk DayZ mod,you should already know what this topic's about. :)

EVR Strorms where Elecrtomagnetic Storms that required you to take shelter in an indoor area or risk loosing health.

Imo,they proved themselves a nice survival element and added to DayZ's gameplay aspect.

If the devs made a decision to implement them for the SA version, would you support it?

Hello there

I dont think I ever played the Namals mod, but I have played the Arma 3 mission with the astounding tornado.

Id like to see atmospheric effects too.

They should add a thunder storm to Chernarus map where there will be extremely high wind, heavy rain and lighting. As well as coast is going to have 10 meters long waves hitting the coastline.

Also inland rivers and lakes should start flooding from the rain. This should be of course an option to pick by the server admins'

Before they instituted such an *interesting* phenomenon as "electromagnetic storms" (never played Namalsk, but saw videos of it), I would really like to see an actual, logical explanation for this. As it is, we are playing an alternate history scenario, with a notional location. I don't want to see the game wandering off into fantasy-land.

100% would support it. I've said since the beginning that I wish they had more interactive environment...

Namalsk was a modded map, I have a feeling someone will make a similar map with similar event or make the Namalsk to be the same as in the mod

Nothing comes close to a thunderstorm, like the ones in Mad Max!

Debri flying everywhere trying to sweep you off your feer, fiece lighting and winds that can carry you all the way to Valhalla!

They're like normal ones but with a little post apocalyptic twist. :D

I'd settle for real storms. I like the current rain but they're more like showers without much wind. Some of my favorite memories of the mod are of being a fresh spawn moving inland in the pitch black night with nothing but a weak flashlight and the occasional intense flashes of lightning to show me the terrain.

It's like a paranormal storm made by nuclear disasters.
Possible lore can be attributed to the usage of nuclear weapons as a solution to the infeced.
The remening radiation affected the weather, creating EVR superstorms.
Exposure to the storm's radiation can cause damage to the organs and affect brain function.
Thus, taking shelter in indoor spaces protects survivors from massive radiation exposure.

Does that make sense? :)

Ummm... actually, no. They would have to seriously retcon the backstory.

On a modded server, anything is possible. But the game itself should be amenable to logical explanation.

For me the "bomb" and the invisible dudes (total brain block on the name) where my least favorite parts of Namalsk.
But I did love the map, great mood and the extra cold was great.

@Damnyourdeadman

That is quite familiar to anyone who knows the "Stalker" series. I love it, personally, would be a great addon to DayZ. Unfortunately, this unbalances the game too much. You would have rendered any base-building useless. Plus, would you imagine all those "DayZ too hard" kids screaming?

Yes that's correct,it's an almost identical mechanic as the one on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

But honestly i don't see how it can effect base-building negatevely.
On the contrary, this drives people to prepare a shelter which imo is a good thing.

As for the people complaining " game's too hard ", they just need to learn to adapt.
DayZ was designed with hardcore survival in mind and challenging enviroment is part of that.

And designed to at least have a plausible back story. There is an official one, after all - and there is nothing in it about nuclear strikes.

My main concern with this idea is about tents - should they protect you from this event or not? If not - then tents are pretty pointless. We need another structure a player can deploy, that is capable of protecting people somehow - if there isn't any, what is the point of having a base if you still die in case of such storm? If you intend to go fully hardcore and request solid buildings or even underground shelters - those will always be in limited amount and induce heavy fighting when people try to rush inside for protection. Also - why bother hiding if you can logout and/or switch server? Those issues need to be addressed for this idea to work. I still like it, perhaps it would make a great server mod.

Or, somebody could explain the physical basis for these "EVR" storms, and how they got into the game. If it's your mod, you could make tents shelter for them, or you could make tents fart rainbows and fly.

If you like them, there is the Namalsk mod for the old DayZ; eventually they will allow mods, which will be private - hopefully with warnings so that real people don't accidentally wander in there.
