I personally find it very bad that campfires, ovens and even garden plots are not persistent. These are like some of the most important things to survive. We made a huge base with about four garden plots, all seeds planted. After the restart it was just GONE. We had to learn it the hard way and I can't understand why stuff like this is not being set persistent, same as the tents. I hope they'll do it one day. I hope.
Later,
Mike
i can understand your way of thinking but think about this.
but.
an unpitched tent, will despawn within 30 minutes
a pitched tent well despawn within 7 days without interaction
so thats why i am thinking if i attach a tripod to a fireplace
its basicly the same as pitching a tent, so it should stay longer then 30 min
it should stay 7 days too
but i am not sure about this
before the 0.58 hotfix last week we had a fireplace
with tripod and cooking pot and it never despawned
so i dont know if this has changed or not
i dont want to lose my complete set. haha
You could construct a stone oven and see if that is still presistent, without losing your trippod. ;)
This is what i found in the 0.58 changelog under known issues:
Fireplace will sometimes disappear soon after being created
but i will test a complete fireplace kit with tripod / cooking pot attached to it
and hopefully i dont lose everything :p
but first i gotta find a pickaxe to find some rocks
but one more question.. where can i find rocks ? :P i have a pickaxe allready and found some rocks but it didnt gave me the option to mine them.

The Oven does disappear. We built one, left it there for more than an hour, restarted the server and it was gone - the tents were still there, but the garden plots, campfires and ovens just disappear. I think that's not really cool since this is an essential part of surviving. I don't feel like mining stones every two or three hours just to get a cool looking camp. They need to fix this as soon as possible.

Mike
Ovens should be persistent. If not, they will be, as per Hicks. You can imagine why campfires are not persistent as there would eventually be tons of them all over the map. Even with a timer, they would be potentially spammed by people who want to negatively impact the server.
Whatever the cause currently, do not mistake their current state of persistent as finalized. The game is still in progress and things will change.
Good feedback though. I harassed Hicks just the other day about something similar so we'll see how things work out. The devs DO listen.
Dear Mr. OuttaGumPacifist,
We did think that the ovens are persistent too, but it turned out that we were wrong. Do you have any informations about the garden plots? Why are they not persistent? or at least make them persistent as soon as it has one planted seed on it? So people can't spam them to negatively impact the server as you said?
The only thing that allows you to make your own 'home' right now is the tents and the barrels. Kind of missing the additional 'furniture' that you could place. But well, thanks for you answer, I guess me and my friends will wait for an update then, so we can make our base even better.
Later,
Mike
Example:
Basic Fireplace: Fire-kit + logs - Non-persistent.
2nd Basic Fireplace: Fire-kit + logs + 8 small stones - Non-persistent.
Advance Fireplace: fire-kit + logs + 12 stones + tripod + pot or grill (wire to secure) + Clay - Persistent.
Oven: fire-kit + logs + 24 stones + grill (wire) + simple flue (some form of metal) + Clay (Could have to dig areas around water sources, ponds & streams etc) - Persistent.
That is my own personal take on a more in-depth approach towards having a permanent fireplace structure.
@ AC Mike S.
For the garden plots to also become persistent they would need some more work in regards to resources/materials also. Maybe a structure, something like a makeshift greenhouse built over the plot - 4x4 wood from the woodmills + plastic + nails + rope. Otherwise it would be abused as Pacifist suggested in relation to the firplaces.
Hopefully when base-building is expanded upon we'll see some implemations to make a home worth living in. ;)
in real life after a heavy rain or something the dirt will be messed up and u have to start over.
but i agree with the campfires, it should be persistence like it was before the hotfix.
And as i said i made a video with me testing the campfire persistency with a friend.
for once and for all :P
Detach the tripod and cooking pot after cooking this patch haha

I currently have no more information to share at the moment. Hopefully the devs will cover some more details on campfires and horticulture in the PvE scrum. Until then, we're in the dark but I personally believe they'll allow our garden plots to persist in the future as it makes no sense as it is now. I agree, once something is planted it should persist, that alone would cut down on some spammage of plots. No one would want to walk around a server that is covered with long forgotten plots as seen elsewhere.
Hicks discussed advanced camps at a recent conference. The video of which was included in a weekly stately report 4-5 weeks ago. Advanced camps will include more than just a couple tents in the woods.
As for moving furniture, the game is a work in progress. Not all features are ready. Rocket's dream of moving furniture hasn't been covered since he mentioned it.
Waiting for the game to be complete is the best option if you desire a full set of features.
