I wouldnt like it to go too far though, simple roofs and doors yeah, but not people building proper brick houses out in the woods. That would start to feel like we are playing an actual building game, the bases need to match the aesthetic of a zombie apocalypse. I feel like more diversity in the "buildings" part list, mixed with all the "props" we can already use (barrels, tents, crates, chests, gardens, generators, lights) and it would be a great building kit.
Going to take this chance to mention the lighting bug again as well. The one where props out of FOV dont render, so a fire barrels light spills out all over camp when you arent looking at it. This needs sorting imo.
I enjoy the basebuilding, its kinda what i do with my time on dayz. I feel like its already a good kit, but with some love could be a really great one :)
The base mod looks like it would at least cover these basics. It still looks extremely basic.
If you google image search "Dayz basebuilding concept art" theres a pencil drawing of a campsite, what they made was pretty spot on to that drawing (rendering maybe).
I think its supposed to be more of a "campsite" than a base. Id defo give the basebuilding mods a go, they do add a lot more options :)
A "base" in Vanilla with a single wall surrounding it is little more than a camp, and can be broken into in minutes, a fortified building with 4 or 5 doors would be a different matter, but since there is no code locks, getting in and out of your base is going to be a frustrating hurdle, given that stupid bicycle lock.
Towers is another useless feature, I gave up on those a long time ago as they serve little purpose other than as a beacon to advertise your camp.
I found that one or two mill tents out in the sticks somewhere, with a perimeter wall around it and some buried stashes in the vicinity, is about the best you can do.

I never build towers to full size because of that. Just one floor above ground and let the next floor be its roof. Half walls on the upper floor and its a nice short watchtower.
Had a funny thought about doing those lord of the rings signal fires with a bunch of full sized watchtowers :D
you will learn why vanilla dayz base building is not awful.
whats awful is entire small towns having walls around them
or giant sniper towers next to high loot areas.
not to mention they just look ugly and dont fit in where the vanilla base building makes sense.
yes it could do with some improvements. but how it is is way better than what people think they want.
