What makes you so sure it was a cheater? Appears that you were ambushed and raided, happens all the time on Official. Which brings me to another point; don't play Official.
once respawned, you'd die within seconds, no matter where on the map, piles of body around each spawn.
couldn't possibly be legit player, no matter how many, or how unlucky we were.
just go play on moded servers , those have admins all the time , install the nvidia experience and activate replay , everytime you press alt f10 it records the past 5 minutes , it's amazing
Hella good suggestion.
I don't ordinarily express myself like this.
Another great idea is to report to the devs. There is a pinned post at the top of the discussion page which has instructions.
Reported it to the devs through their system including all relevant info, we recorded it, but doesn't really help prove anything since it doesn't show who killed us or any other useful info.
We considered playing on a community or private server, but prefer the vanilla experience (hackers included) but is the first time any of us have run into a hacker than can loot across the map.
We affiliate with 2 other groups on the server, and we all lost members and were all looted within a half hour period. Don't normally complain about these sorts of things, just wanted to know if there were any community tips on countering this sort of thing. Although we are newer to DayZ our group is used to hardcore survival, spending time on rust, tarkov, etc. We die in suss ways all the time and couldn't care less, but when you cant even have a hidden stash then whats the point?
The people that we affiliate with have thousands of hours between them and say there wasn't this many hackers before 1.09 and that officials are normally as reliable as community.
If Vanilla is preferred, then once again don't play on Official dude, go find yourself a Community/Public Vanilla server and play there, there are quite a few of them and you are sure to find a server with low ping and low to med pop.
ill leave this open for now as its good to have a civil chat now and then about this.
but expect a lock at any time
Getting raided or dying to players or hackers adds time to your game, it might be a pain when it happens but it gives you more reason to keep playing, as it seems there are some people that also spend thousands of hours in the official servers.
We mainly wanted to know if this sort of thing is common as none of us had seen it before. As said, we couldn't care about dying to hackers or losing things, but it is more annoying when you lose progress in such a stupid way.
TY to many of these posts get purged. You are right.. sometimes we need to talk about this. Lets be civil. The prob. we these threads is most are wrong. Most are simply like others here have said. Vet. players just kicking butt. IT makes everything turn into the "boy who cried wolf". Then when it does happen we all ignore it.
Sometimes it is exactly what the @OP says. There has been an increase "cheaters" recently. but this is always how it is. They find a new way to cheat/hack. game devs (any game) fix it,it is good for a bit. rinse - repeat. As long as we have online games, we will have online cheats. Some games do not try hard to fix this, others do. We have to take this with a grain of salt. I no longer use Official servers, found a good home with good admins. and in the last 6 months, I had 1 incident... and I am not sure that was a real "incident" at all.
Considering THIS happened to my mates while I wasn't on for a few days:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9M6SW6JeFg8&feature=emb_title
I don't doubt his story for a second.
We thought about starting our own server, as the main thing we don't like about community servers is that admins / mods always have the option of playing the game in any unfair way, and though uncommon it can be more off putting or annoying than dying to a hacker.
Take for example Stimpee's newest vid (whose content I love don't get me wrong) filmed on one of the more popular community servers in Aus (as far as I know, though it doesn't change anything).
This level of abuse, even if it happens once, can be more off putting than a hacker.

We're pretty set on playing on officials, hackers and all. But if we ever get sick of that style of DayZ then we may try community servers, as theres no point playing on empty servers.
As said, we would just like to know if this sort of major hack that affects the whole map is a long running thing (as some hacks for games are) or if it's because of the new patch / current influx of players, most of our group being new ourselves.
A couple of weeks later I ran across this talk from 2016 by Eugen Harton (DayZ dev) specifically about cheats and how to deal with them. Although a bit dated the process he lays out has merely evolved as the bad guys develop new ways to exploit weaknesses in the game. The entire software industry faces these same type of challenges and use similar methods.

Since people can make some good money creating/selling cheats they will likely always exist.
By the way - I have the same opinion about the 'mystery' of official servers as compared to the curated community ones.
Yeah we had suspicions of who it was, two people on the server with just numbers for names, both accounts had been banned from pubg and more within the last month and now they have both started on DayZ, but still can't verify it was even them killing us as official has no display for who killed you (to my knowledge, if theres a way to see please inform me!) We put forward their steamID and our own with our report to the devs in hopes they could correlate the time / server with the deaths.
Still, death is apart of the game no matter how it happens, but this is the first time we've seen someone loot all containers, breaking tents and things in the process. We're merely trying to figure out if this is something we have to prepare for often (as its the first time we've seen it) and how to do so, such as logging off with anything important.
It has been going since the begining of this year... not gonna stop any time soon so your best bet is to simply stop playing on official servers. There is nothing you can prepare or do to them. They can see you from over 1km away and shoot you from there if they want.
