Does dayz take place in the 80s?

You see no new cars or modern appliances. Everything you see looks like it was from the 70s or 80s. No madero weapons either.

The time is not set in stone. The cars fit to dayz.

It's because you have to understand the location of the map needs to fit the stuff so like Russia has old vehicles but United Kingdom doesnt so for dayz gives the aspect it's not a wealthy country.

Map is an old one, that's for sure...it's from the Arma 2 mod, with additions since SA came out (a lot actually), but the additions kept with the original building types... I'm not sure how much time you have ever spent in countries that were behind the Iron Curtain prior to 1990, but let's just say the Russian-made stuff they got wasn't like the latest fridge from GE...that being said, I agree it should be moderned up a little...after all, Arma 3, another Bohemia game, has much more modern buildings and accouterments, so...

Nowadays Russia has modern stuff. Dayz takes place in chernarus. Not Russia.

The map and most the models are still from ArmA 2, Chernarus is a post-soviet state in the 1990's.

I know, but it reflects the Soviet OCCUPATION of Cheoslovakia when the Soviet Union fell apart...

ArmA 3 has nothing to do with DayZ in any way shape or form what was the point in bringing that up?

its a reflection of how far behind this game is to the real world. like its developers this game is 30 years too late.

Yeah, it seems to be in the late 80s. And remember that it's not Russia, it's an imaginary post soviet state called Chernarus.

If i remmember correctly there is a date on one of the "billboards" one in the bend after Prigorodki heading towards Chernogorsk, and think there is one by the Dubky appartments that also has a date on it. If i remmember correctly it says 2012 or something like that :)
