How can i make gun shots quieter? The sound is destroying my ears.
I can only make the game very quiet, so i cant hear anything but gun shots, or what?
Theres no config edit for this? I have to route the game sound trough a limiter to play this game?

You'll need to find a Suppressor in the game, to attach to your weapon, or, you can make a suppressor by combining a Plastic Bottle and Duct Tape.

Unfortunately, yeah, there is no game setting to reduce individual noises.

Lots of community servers have an earplug mod for this reason

Just HOW loud do you have it?

Before firing put in your earplugs. N key.

So loud as i had it for decades, before playing Dayz...and In-game i have the master vol on 1/2 and effects on 1/2 for now, but the shots are still tool loud overall and specially compared to all other sounds in the game, and btw the shot sounds are sounding bad, flat mono and it sounds like they removed any mid and low frequencies which sounds even more unnatural for the ears and quality wise not good and distorted and thats hurting even more.

I just started playing the game and the loudness of the different guns seem to differ a lot. The sporter gun has a normal sound (is it some air compression gun, maybe?), and the pistol and the shotgun and another weapon me and my friend were firing had exploding my ears....

In Arma 3 the shots sound very similar, but better and in Vigor the shots sound good AND are mixed well with the other sounds. Only the mortar strike is a bit too loud there.

I play on official (no ear plugs i guess?) and how should i put ear plugs in when an enemy is creeping up unnoticed on us and shoot us and blow our ears.

Sporter is a .22 so it’s just not going to be as loud as the bigger boys.

Arma 3’s gunshots always sounded super quiet and thin to me. Just tiny little snaps.

Ever shoot a gun IRL? It’s effing loud.

That’s another part about this game that just nails it. I want my gunshots to blast my ears out. I ain’t shooting that often anyway…..

the "limiter" (soft- or hardware solution) is the way to go. the game sound options wont allow you to hear footsteps within a realistic range without risking permanent damage to your rl hearing by gunshot or car engine sounds.

^^ limiter or compressor could maybe help. Not sure how you’d go about routing a software comp/limiter to process the game audio and not have latency.

You could run your audio track through an EQ.
You could "compress" the audio track and make it more bearable
without loosing much of the ambient sound.

Perhaps a multiband compressor to compress specific frequency rages. With a normal EQ I suppose you could try to find the frequencies of the gun audio and notch those out but I feel like it’s too much of the spectrum and you’d end up neutering your entire audio.

Compressing and limiting may help keep the loud stuff quieter but would also make quiet stuff (ambience, footsteps etc) louder. But more balanced. I just personally like the guns to be super loud like they are. Every shot fired feels like 😈
