No, it just has a specific use.
It's not an assault rifle and does not use
rifle ammo. It just lacks power at range
like most PDW's do.
You can use it on people as well but it struggles with a plate
or a helmet. Normal clothing at close range it works ok..
Better than nothing. But, not my first choice.
You need to be close, like across the room close.
the vss/asval is very good close range. always silenced and fast rate of fire. good against wolves and infected. it also still fits in bigger bags, like the combat backpack.
just the bullet drop reminds of a crossbow (because of the low muzzle velocity).
in fact, I like it...it's a weapon for specialists.
Having said that, the VSS is an extremely nice weapon to have. It's always silenced and very effective against zombies and animals. The armor-piercing ammo seems to pack a punch if you do end up using it against players, but still not ideal. It's particularly useful when fighting packs of wolves or clearing out an entire area of zombies silently.
If you're out hunting or get attacked by wolves and shoot any normal gun, you just alerted every player in the vicinity to your location. With the VSS you don't have to worry about that.
It fits in most backpacks (less after the recent update) and the ammo for it seems to be some of the most abundant ammo in the game. People who say the ammo for it is rare are nuts. Some of the most common ammo you'll find laying around is 9x39mm and it's because not many people are running around with guns that use it.
Just investigate any military vehicle sitting around and there's a good chance you'll see the ammo.
You really have it backwards. 7.62x39mm is by far the most common rifle ammunition in the game. Also, the AK74 just sucks compared to the AKM. Plate carriers will tank a spray of 5.45x39 and you'll be dead before you know it.
