DayZ
Official Server - Newbie Question
Hi all,

Noob and have about 70 hours of play, been playing on official servers and have watched a lot of YouTube tutorials and it seems that they are all picking up lots of loots (the basics - knife, water bottles, food, basic clothing etc) very quickly however, the reality for me has been that there's very little loot and you have to quickly push inland almost straight away. Even then the pickings aren't great util you get into the tier 2 areas I'm often struggling to get a knife or hatchet.

I've just tried running a Dayz Server at home and tried it as a fresh default setup, no mods or alterations of any kind and there's loot everywhere!! Appreciating that I'm probably answering my own question but is it simply the case that on the official servers there's lots of player traffic at the spawn points and the loot respawns can't keep up and therefore there's little loot around???? Or does the loot not respawn until a server restart or wipe??

TIA J

Hi Eric, I think you may have answered your own question like you said.

On an official server, a load of loot gets taken from the most popular areas, and the through traffic makes sure it keeps getting taken. The first time I ran my own DayZ server at home was a big eye opener as to how much loot the server provides on start up.

YT tutorials - they may be playing on their own servers so that they can educate you as to the basics, or even on modded servers where loot levels may have been enhanced and increased in frequency etc. What you see maybe atypical of the average gamer's experience.

No, it's not just you, I've been there so many times.

Thanks guys, guessed as much! Think that’s something that’s missing from many tutorials and the actual gaming experience on official servers can be pretty demoralising when all you can get is unwanted clothing and kit that’s not useful (who needs a generator when you’ve just spawned in 😂). My experiences so far has been trying not to starve to death! I’ve had most success just heading inland immediately. It will get easier once I’ve mastered the infected killing, not quite got the muscle memory in place yet for the block, back up, step forward, power strike 😂😂

I can remember when i first started...
I still have Flatcap and capripants trauma.
Official servers are also a "hive" you can move between them
and carry your loot with you.
The rub is though. You only keep what you can carry
and you spawn randomly on the map.
Although, any base you have will stay as normal on the
server it was built on so, you can loot other servers and go
back.
You can also move between the Chermno, Lavonia, Sahkal
"Official" servers as well as long as you have the required DLC
(for Sahkal).

Quick tip for killing infected if I may? I have zero coordination for hand to hand combat, so speaking as an old bloke not in a rush.

There are many places you can easily jump on top of, cars and trucks being the most reliable, where the infected can't quite reach you but they will mill around you like fat birds at last orders waiting for a drink and a poke.

The best weapon I have found so far is the.... sharpened stick as it's got enough reach to keep stabbing them till they die while you stay out of danger, and hope the loot they drop is decent stuff. It's also your next fire or BBQ skewer.

I love the brass knuckles. Quick, easy, effective,
Durable AND very small & Light.
