DayZ
To all you snipers out there - what's your coolest story?
Obviously there are many on these forums who are very outspoken in their hatred of snipers. Some find their methods underhanded and often without motive... And to be honest, most of the time that's true. I personally just love the idea of researching the map, determining possible positions to snipe from, calculating range, and waiting to make my shot on an unsuspecting target... So here is my coolest sniper story.

Very quickly into my start of DayZ I saw the vast potential for taking on the role of a sniper. Chernarus is massive and it's already a huge rush seeing another player, but catching a glimpse of a player through your scope at upwards of 600 meters after waiting for an hour is a whole different ball game...

So upon my first visit to Svet the sniper in me immediately spotted the tall cliff spanning the length of the city directly to the North. It was perfect. Far enough away from the city to deter most players from running all the way around the mountain to get up to my position (this was before they integrated the pathway that now leads directly up the mountain to the radio tower). It gave me a direct line of sight on all the major hotspots in Svet: the police station, hospital rooftop, main courtyard, gas station, piano house, and a couple of the main streets and shops.

I posted up under a tree there for days. I saw a lot of Bambi's and a few groups and killed a few as well. I was addicted to the idea that to the target below they only heard the distant crack and then black... But I knew how underhanded the whole process was, and I'm sure I'll get some flak for it here on the forums, but what's done is done...

So as I'm observing the city I see a Bambi running into the city towards the main courtyard with two other players. The two other players looked to be pretty well geared up, but were blatantly running through the city streets on a high pop server in arguably the most populated city for players (at the time).

So as they reached the courtyard they all stop in the center at a previously calculated 600 meters. So I drilled the guy and he went down... The other two start running wildly in circles not sure what to do it seemed. The man I had just shot began crawling and I realize I had shot his leg because he kept trying to stand up, but would continue to crawl every time he crouched and attempted to move. He managed to crawl in a shop and picked the first room he could enter to hide. His friends ran in behind him, but little did they know that I could still see their movements though the North facing window of the shop they took refuge in.

After about a minute one of the players, who was still able to run, ran out into the courtyard and appeared to be looking for bandages to help his wounded friend. I could still see flashes of movement from the shop my wounded player had hid in, but no clear shots.

The player who took off to find bandages came running back to the shop obviously having found something to bandage up his friend with and to his misfortune decided to stand over his friend in the shop right in front of the North facing window... So I drilled him. Two down. And the third guy (still hiding in the shop) would not help his friend. He didn't move.

They must have logged off soon after, but I felt a pretty heady rush.

By the way, I no longer use this spot to snipe from since so many others have started using it since it's an obvious place to post up and the game has added an easy access road to get to it.

And if you've only come to bash the underhanded tactics of sniping or criticize some definition of sniping then don't expect a response. I'm just interested in hearing some other great sniper stories.

I was trapped atop a tower with a huge terrifying zombie horde shambling towards me... I was dropping the undead one by one with headshots, but there were too many of them... they began climbing the stairs toward me and had to switch to my pistol to start killing them on the staircase... they were getting closer... I retreated to highest balcony where I had to switch to my knife to start fighting them with CQC... I was able to kill three of them with a knife to the brain before I was bitten on my hand... knowing I was infected with the zombie virus and about to die and not wanting my character to turn into a zombie... I jumped from the top of the tower to my death.

*wait... that was a dream i had about what dayz could be eventually.

When the transition from NWAF to NEAF happened a while back, I had no idea it was in the works. Months ago NWAF was a death sentence and NEAF was forgotten. So I always scoped out NEAF for bandits, only actually firing at maybe 1 out of every 20 players I saw looting the field. For me, the transition to NEAF happened practically over night. I had been playing for several hours, on a low pop server, when all of a sudden the list was full and it seemed all 40 players were somewhere between Svetlo and NEAF. Massive firefights broke out, some coming my way, so I moved positions. When I circled back, exactly where I had been prone scoping out the field was a team of two snipers. If I hadn't of left they would have got me. Neutralized both of them and got the hell out of Dodge.
