UPDATE: I'm drowning my character in the water so that she might know hydration in her final moments before release

Drinking water from rivers and ponds was a thing back in early access. Currently one needs to find a well (standard on most maps) or source (if its on Sakhal). Every other water can make one sick - with cholera. You would need meds to counter that or your character will die eventually. You can also boil water taken directly from nature, wait for it to cool down and drink safely. Or use chlorine tablets to purify it instantly. Either way its not alpha any longer.

From any water source get close and you will see a prompt to left mouse click drink. River and lake water will make you sick unless you use chlorine tabs or have a water bottle filter to clean it. Drinking from a well is best because its clean water. Nearly every small village and city has a well.

Clean water can only be found from wells (springs on Sakhal). All other water will give you Cholera and must be purified by using chlorine tablets (found at hunting locations) or by boiling in a Pot on a fire for a couple of minutes.

If you have Tetracycline tablets you can drink dirty water and cure it by taking the meds. Or hope to find some at the nearest med centre/hospital.

Water found in bottles has also a good chance to give you Cholera.

There are food sources that are high in water such as raw fruit/mushrooms/vegetable but you would need a lot to sustain you for a long time. They are more of a stop gap until you find a reliable water source.

Also sprinting consumes a lot more water than jogging, as does sweating.....yellow and red temps. So avoid them until you have good hydration.
