DayZ

Been on the fence for a long time, should I buy? Which version?
Topic title. I always wanted to get this, not being a big fan of survival games. I enjoy Gray Zone Warfare, I enjoy Lethal company, Helldivers 2 at most. I didn't enjoy Ark or Conan (survival). I love zombies, I really liked Days Gone. My game buddy brought this and warned me not to get it because I'd be walking around in an empty space for a long time.

So still want to know with the sales up, should I risk getting this? Will I enjoy it with the game comparisons I made?

Which versions should I get? Is the standard very limited where it is not worth it, similar to Tarkov which I have been on the fence (but mostly because it's not on Steam).

if you do buy it go standard is fine , you get access to Livonia and chernarus. sakahl is just another map and its a little pricey if your on the fence.

id suggest watching streamers first and see if you want to spend the time trying to survive.
the learning curve can be difficult.

Will you enjoy it? Thats is only for you to find out. Its the problem of feelings. You know yourself the best.

I'm going to save you a lot of time and effort, but you need to read carefully :)

1- This game have bad service, really bad. not just because it doesnt exist as a service, but also the updates rarely improve the game, they usualy just get more content to sell, which is fine but not with bad service and bugs.

2- This game has 0 accounability for hackers, its a hacker's heaven in Official servers, and makes its super hard for admins in community server to detect them and have them banned.

3- The player base right now, is mostly FPS/PVP meanings they mostly wanna get kills, much less of the community today is interested in the survival/role play or any other of the infinit options u can do with this game.

4- This game relies mostly on the community to maintain itself, its the community server who actualy hold this game relevant, most of the youtube video are in a community server.

Incase you decide to buy the game here are the good things you can do in it:
1- First of all, dont use this forums, its mostly trolls who wont really help you, your best bet is Discord some good channels, you can start with the Dayz official one.

2- Use Deathmatch server to get better at killing/self defence.
dont wait for your skill to develop in regular dayz game, its gonna take you longer that way and u gonna lose a lot of time and effort u can avoid.

3- Find a group and join it, its much easier to learn when playing with others and for the surprise of most of the loners in Dayz, its actually more fun when you have players with the same mindset with u.

4- Watch a lot of youtube tutorials, they can save you a lot of frustration and time.

In general, dont buy, I think there are better options for survival and for pvp out there so if u can choose to get addicted, might as well choose some other game

There are definetely long periods of walking. Not without purpose. This is a survival game. Most of your deaths at the beginning will be from lack of resources until you learn how to get food/water and maintain body temperature.

The players, are just another factor. When you encounter one, you won't know their intentions. I've met people who shot on sight, and others who i teamed with.

If you treat this game as "I'm going to die but how long can I live for", it's nice, even relaxing at times. Then everything goes to crap in a single moment. I love this about the game.

Thank you everyone, I read all the replies. It doesn't seem like a game for me, but the most important question, is there PVE only servers? I understand a lot of the experience is for PVP but maybe I should have mentioned I enjoy PVE mostly in games like Gray Zone. I like teaming up and going for objectives. Are there any solid objectives or is the game just about surviving?

For the Fortnite comment, no, sorry, not my generation of game lol Season 1 was enough.

Would you say the deathmatch server alone is worth getting the game? For jumping in getting kills, and jumping out?

At a guess from what you have said. No you wont enjoy it. Mostly its about dealing with survival aspects for a new player (food/water/sickness/map knowledge) and while figuring all that out, other players will take the advantage and kill you for fun. Often before you even see them.

There is a steep learning curve and you will find it hard to find other players to fight until you know what your doing. This is not a casual game that will be fun to hop on and off for an hour here and there. You have to be prepared to spend a lot of time gearing up and then you will be killed in an instant and have to start again.

All that said, its one of the best games I've ever played and I can easily immerse myself in it for hours........but can you?

This game is not deathmatch......not even close to it. The combat in official servers is nothing like that at all.

I can see the OP is probably not suited to Dayz but I have to clear up some misinformation.

1. "This game have bad service, really bad. not just because it doesnt exist as a service, but also the updates rarely improve the game, they usualy just get more content to sell"
Not true at all they have done this once in 5 years.

2. "This game has 0 accounability for hackers, its a hacker's heaven in Official servers, and makes its super hard for admins in community server to detect them and have them banned."
All online games have cheats yes they exist but are nowhere near as prevalent as inexperienced and low skilled players make out. Moderated community servers are the way to go.

3. "The player base right now, is mostly FPS/PVP meanings they mostly wanna get kills, much less of the community today is interested in the survival/role play or any other of the infinit options u can do with this game."
This is server dependant and not a general rule. Official is not the only option

4. "This game relies mostly on the community to maintain itself, its the community server who actualy hold this game relevant, most of the youtube video are in a community server."
Yes and this is Dayz's strength. It's the community content that keeps the game fresh. We get to benefit from a large group of people's ideas. They can produce way more content than a small group of devs can.

"First of all, dont use this forums, its mostly trolls who wont really help you, your best bet is Discord some good channels, you can start with the Dayz official one."
Not true. There are many helpful people in here. There are also many people who failed at learning how to play Dayz properly and come in here to try and smear the game in any way they can..

"Use Deathmatch server to get better at killing/self defence.
dont wait for your skill to develop in regular dayz game, its gonna take you longer that way and u gonna lose a lot of time and effort u can avoid."
If the OP has little FPS experience I agree.

"Find a group and join it, its much easier to learn when playing with others and for the surprise of most of the loners in Dayz, its actually more fun when you have players with the same mindset with u."
I agree.

"In general, dont buy, I think there are better options for survival and for pvp out there so if u can choose to get addicted, might as well choose some other game"
I hear this comment thrown around quite often. What exactly are these survival games that are better than Dayz because I'd be very interested in them. Please don't say RUST, SCUM or Zomboid.

Thanks again guys, I think I made my decision to not get the game this year. Maybe one year I won't have a large library of games to catch up on and I will have time to really dive in and experience this game.
