Zombie door breaking & obstacle climbing
I've noticed some community servers employ mods that assist the zombies with doors and other pathfinding issues (e.g. by making cars impossible to climb). This prevents players from easily cheesing the zombies.

Players like myself never think twice about zombies. If one's after you, you simply run behind a door or jump up a ledge - then you're invincible with the capability of killing as many zombies that come to you (entitling you to their loot).

While it's nice that the community is so kind to create mods to fix foundational issues with the gameplay, I'm curious if there's any reason why there hasn't been any effort to implement these things? I remember they reworked the zombie pathfinding some months back...but in the end, my experience is basically the same. If modders can do it, we know they can. Does BI pride themselves on their janky zombies?

Well, i have actually played a couple of servers that run that mod.
They are the SAME janky infected, nothing has changed, pathfinding
still sucks they just come inside now. The really interesting thing i found
was they were throwing rocks at me and they did very real damage.
So, i doesn't "fix" any issues like pathfinding that I personally saw but
it did somewhat take me out of my comfort zone. like you said, you
can't just hide inside and getting on top of things earns a hail of rocks.

I think BI can better execute these concepts. I agree they're still janky. I just like the concept of making the zombies harder to cheese, because I enjoy difficult games. :)

Having said that, I'll never get tired of sniping unsuspecting players who are punching zombies from atop a car or inside the police checkpoint building (which seems to exist abundantly).

BI branch aint doing it probably because they have different schedule and this hybrid programming theyre using here is not helping out. Game needs one good engine behind it and BIs not ready to address that.

I think we are going to have to wait until DayZ II.

I noticed what fixes the pathfinding is making enemies slower. They won't run into walls and get stuck. But then they would have to be made stronger (more damage, slow you down if they hit you, increase their numbers and make it easier for them to surround you.

BI is actively addressing the Game Engine issue .. Arma Reforger is the Test Bed for the new Enfusion engine which will eventually be the base for Arma 4, and either DayZ 2, or a re-write of the current DayZ code.
- Granted, this is not immediately apparent to DayZ players, but BI is working on things that will affect DayZ going forward, thru other Dev teams, and on other Titles.

Frostline gives me confidence that we can still expect good things in DayZ's future. What those things will be...only time will tell.

(Notice how I'm a lot more respectful these days?)

Me too, it's not easy...is it?

In the mod even zombies that break open doors can be cheesed if a player knows what to do. A player can still find safety in buildings just not every building and just not every time, unless the player uses a lock pick to secure the door. But its better in my opinion than Z's that can't break open doors at all. In fact I just can't imagine playing without the mod after all this time. I'm not certain it would be fair if the player could not find safety at all.

The mod certainly stops the player from rounding up and locking groups of Z's into a building to clear the area because the Z's easily break out.

Thrown stones can hit a player anywhere that they can be seen but not reached, including through building windows. It distorts vision so fighting from the top of a car would be pointless, and stones can also do dmg depending on config.

I haven't played any servers with zombies that throw stones.

I'm not so sure if stone throwing fits in with zombie lore. Also, it makes me jealous.

I've always wanted to kill someone by throwing a rock at their head. (in DayZ of course...)

I have found if you have another room in the building and you go through
a second door you are pretty safe. I think they only breach the outer doors.
I am not 100% its just what i have seen so far so please don't quote this
as fact, it's just my personal theory.
