for me, that's a good thing. It got me out of my comfort zone
and really engaging in trying to survive, Just like a good DLC should.
I didn’t time it exactly, but jogging from the west coast of the mainland to the volcano probably took me a good 20 mins at least, and that’s not even halfway into the mainland.
You can definitely tell the "detail" of everything is much higher on this map. The sounds of the animals are nice, especially rabbits since you have to kill them for meat, since there are no chickens now (I don't think so anyways)
One thing that sucks about the sounds is that, you hear all these birds and such but can't see a single one of those things at all... like they are all invisible or ghosts. I'd like to see these birds, owls, seagulls etc.
I've put a lot of time into the DLC.
The map dimensions are perhaps misleading, as unlike Cherno and Livonia where you'd hit the apples and a well, then jog for miles, Sakhal makes you do things much more slowly.
Getting warm clothing and fire lighting equipment becomes a priority. Accessing the interior parts of the map and the higher tier loot areas becomes an exercise in logistics and endurance.
I don't like the cold weather/hypothermia mechanism though, as there are several anomalies, and generally doesn't follow real life principles. (Yes I know it's a fantasy game!)
Overall - depends on your budget, how much you play vanilla vs modded servers, but for me the vanila experience has given me sufficient value for money, and made me get out of my own comfort zone.
PS - if you do go for it, maybe try running your own single player server to try things out before going MP, it helped me learn a few basics!
I enjoy having Apple Trees to pick (you can always count on getting at least one Apple to eat from them) I don't think I've seen any Apple Trees in Livonia and I think both have Water Fountains.
As for Sakhal, it's like, Spawn, find warm clothes and food, find food it's cold/frozen so gotta make a fire to heat it/yourself up etc I don't think anything is "Slow" but if you meant the progress than yes, it's very slow in the new map.
You'd be focusing more on staying warm and eating than anything else. I still haven't managed to make it deep into the Map. I did find a little base/bunker but ended up dying cause no food.
Only Cherno has fruit trees. Livonia has mushrooms and i
don't think Sakhal has any Flora you can eat.
Not that i have found yet anyway.
Ah! I was wondering what Livonia offered instead of Apples. I did pick some Mushrooms but thought it was also in Cherno. This is good info, thanks :)
Sakhal, hmm, what would be in place for Flora in a cold type place? are there any specific cold things you can only eat during Winter or so? since Rabbits are the Chickens (I assume) and the map has wolves, fish, that's all I know of so far. Tons of food items but basic stuff and just frozen/cold status.
I guess we'll find something if we keep looking or someone will just tell us what it offers lol
Top tip - don't eat the snow, even if it isn't yellow.
You can melt snow in a filter bottle that can be found around the Island.
A good alt to finding the springs.
Pro tip: every spring has a small path leading to it on the outskirts
of a town or village. Plenty on the north coast, rarer in the south so..
Stock up before heading south. The frozen water in the cooking pots
can also be melted and consumed without treatment...
Truffles in a cold climate...
The map also has foxes.. Cute little critters.
Mainly on Sakhal i eat fish. Killing infected is a good way to get
tinned food as well.
