That and being punched at or clubbed with blunt objects.

What about the wizard staff.

not trying to be a ♥♥♥♥ but the design is actually not very good at deflecting a downward cut due to the ridge at the top which causes the blade to grip the metal to a greater degree meaning the cut delivers a more focused cut

Did you ever stop to think that the great helm is just a cheap movie prop? Well maybe not cheap, but the sword, and the mace are described as being "Ceremonial props. Not meant for actual combat."

In the same manner a camping hatchet isn't meant for cutting people up. Baseball bats aren't meant for smashing heads in. Though people do it, in game and in real life.

The great helm is still a better brain bucket than a motor bike helmet anyways.

Is that sarcasm? I've yet to find one, but I want to test its shock protection vs. a motorbike helmet. The telescopic police baton will pretty much 1 hit ko any player in the face/ or head. Be they wearing a helmet or not. I think only the most rugged of helmets would protect against that.

I don't think it's enchanted :\

So you are totally vulnerable to magic in the face/head region.

It makes sense to me. The great helm was made for knights being swung at by foot men with maces and swords. So yeah I'd imagine it would work well. Though the question is... Is the great helm a replica prop like the sword and mace?

I can't say for sure but the description says it's a "massive steel..." so I'd guess it's real.
By the way, even though it says 1% bleed chance, I punched my friend wearing this pristine in the face and he bled so... I don't know. Really lucky or it's not a 1% chance.

Luck based chance for bleeding? I've been punched and bled while wearing good gear, been punched without good gear and didn't. So it may be random.

Not exactly, the purpose of armor like that great helm wasn't to be able to just absord continual blows, but the combination with body armor gives a lot of weight and sturdiness to a human frame which makes "taking hits" (when also blocking with sword or shield) a lot more viable and easy. In particular, the added sturdiness around the neck that a combined helmet and body plate would give.

Nothing is really going to stop a solid iron mace/sword blow to the back or front of your head from killing or incapacitating you, but a half hit, or a slice that would have torn your skin open, or something dangerous but not exactly deadly like a slingshot, or rocksalt shotgun, would be vastly less effective. If the sword wasn't sharp it may help to deflect the force of the hit, but recieving that much forceful impact to the head (from an "average" person getting a full force swing at anothers head with a heavy object), would be serious injury or death in most cases.

So it helps vs a lot of things, but nothing, including a great helm or even a ballistic helm is truely reliable.
