16 stone fireplace/oven 40 slot storage, is it safe to use like other containers?

I built the upgraded 16 large stone fireplace. The fireplace comes with a 40 slot storage. Few questions. First, is this storage affected by the heat of the lit fireplace? Is it intended to be used to dry clothes? Or is it unaffected by a lit fire? I'm considering using it to store extra canned food and extra sticks/logs/kindling for future fires, but I'm concerned that whatever I place there can be heated/degraded/destroyed by a lit fire.

That is not meant as storage. Its a place to put things you want to burn up in the fireplace. As soon as you light a fire it will be gone.

I mean it is safe to use UNTIL it's lit ;)

unlit fireplaces despawn fairly quick so no use as long term storage. Anything you unfortunately put in there when its LIT would be ruined very quick. I use lit fireplaces to despawn gear that i dont take on base raids, comes in handy to delete a ton of gear quickly.

Once you build the 8-stone Fire Ring, or 16-stone Oven (as the OP said), they don't despawn for quite a very long time.
