Why is it called heavy metal poisoning?

You get it from eating snow so shouldn't it be called snow poisoning? It's not like you get it from listening to too much heavy metal.

Regular snow alone isn't poisonous, but when it's laced with volcanic ash full of metals, it becomes harmful to ingest.

It's said the DayZ heavy metal poisoning will give you periodic hearing loss in game. This lends itself well to the idea that a victim of it will hear deafening heavy metal music followed by a period of deafness.
