Arma Reforger has that mechanic built into the game where you can raise/lower your weapon as well as a "low ready" stance where you can move faster, but also have the gun raised so you can aim and shoot faster than if it was lowered. Considering DayZ is on the same engine as Arma Reforger, there's no reason why they couldn't make that a thing or, at the very least, allow you to choose between the current system (gun always lowered, aim to raise gun, press button to ADS) and Arma Reforger (gun can be raised/lowered, hold/tap RMB to ADS)
From all of my playtime on Arma Reforger the last few weeks on large-scale servers with 120-140 people, I haven't had a single instance of mass lag causing vehicles to clip into the ground and explode/fly into orbit or any bullets getting eaten by imaginary/invisible hitboxes. There is a lot of connection timeouts, but that's due to the mods the server is running and not the game itself. The only bug that I've encountered involved a vehicle that "broke" and caused the mounted MG to not do any damage to anything and drove weirdly, but that's the only bug I've experienced
Compare that to current DayZ where you can be on an empty server and have a minor bit of latency/lag that can cause your vehicle to clip into something and explode and/or fly into the air or ghost bullets or many other server synchronization issues
Feels bad man. No excuse.
Happens to me so many times and I just don't understand how that works
I had it set up so that I could hold right-click and that would ADS. Or I could single-click RMB and that would raise my weapon into hip fire position. Or I could click scroll wheel while ADS to switch to hip fire position and back again.
After one of the last patches they broke the ability to set ADS and Raise to RMB, and to set to toggle or Hold.
You can still hold RMB to ADS like before, but you have to jump through hoops.
I thought I found some lines of code where they mixed up some console and pc command inputs. I opened a bug report but nothing came of it. I forget exactly what it was, but it was something to do with holding ADS being set to a "trigger button" instead of RMB, for the PC control, and then the like for PC was correct, or blank... I don't remember... but something was wonky and I filled out a report..
Why can't you? There are apps that will let you set any key to perform any function you want. Many gaming keyboards even have this feature built into them.
I didn't know about the double binding to be able to instantly ADS, but I really wish I did. The in-game "crosshair" when hipfiring is such a joke and is a placebo because it doesn't correlate to where you're aiming whatsoever and relying on it is relying on you missing all of your shots
Literally me coming back from 5+ years not playing, when I noticed how disgustingly bad this was I just started plying 1PP only. :l
