Server Hosting: Using SteamCMD Only on W10Pro
Hello everyone,

Over the last couple of days I've been digging deep into hosting DayZ servers. I was able to host one using Omega Manager the other day just fine. I still needed to figure out how to download, inject and configure in the Namalsk Map + Island.

That was when I was working with Omega, I went with a Debian VM next and had trouble hosting one there and couldn't get it to start. I also had to create a external network adapter in Hyper-V and assign it to the Debian VM so I can get it on the same LAN. Doing that worked with the VM, but the host lost internet and will continue to lose internet until I delete the adapter.

Anyways, I stepped away from Linux and wanted to try Docker on Windows, got it installed and everything, but that's when I found out that I can just host a server using SteamCMD, creating/editing the batch and config files etc. I was able to successfully launch the server this way, figured out my port forwarding, but this is just a basic vanilla cherno map.

My main goal is to get it to run Namalsk + Island, a few mods (will get into this once I figure out how to load Namalsk,) using SteamCMD. At the moment, 1. I do not know how to tell SteamCMD to download Namalsk? 2. The config file needs to be edited + the mission needs to be added to mpmission. I can do this but just want to confirm. 3. Once, I can load Namalsk and the Island w/o any issues, I'd like to get into mods.

That's basically it. How do I get SteamCMD to intstall Namalsk and run it everytime I launch the bat file?

You don't even need SteamCMD ... Go to your Steam Library, at the top left, click "games" to open the drop down menu, and select "Tools" and "Software" in addition to "Games", then just scroll down, and install the DayZ Server software.

Search for Scalespeeder Gaming on Youtube for tutorials on how to edit the included ServerDZ.cfg and create a Start.bat batch file that will load all your mods when starting your server. (Once downloaded, you can copy the entire DayZ server to a portable drive if you want to transfer to another machine).

Edit: Using the Steam library method, Steam will keep your Server updated, with you only having to manually update the Mods themselves when the Client tells you they have updated there.

Hello, just want to let you know that I was able to figure it out and successfully launch a server using only SteamCMD. The reason why I chose SteamCMD over DayZServer was to get the experience and to me it seemed way faster than setting up Omega on W10 or Docker on Linux.

You don't seem to understand what I am telling you ... You do not need ANYTHING other than a PC with Windows .. No Omega Manager, no Docker, no other additional things to do.
.. But hey, you do you, not judging your choices.
