I run everything on max settings and I get it very noticeably. Zooming either just “focusing” or with any sort of scope is just icky. The LOD updates like 2-3 times and it’s not smooth/instant; it takes a second or 2 after zooming.
One of the biggest issues this game had during legacy DayZ was that, since grass and sometimes tree branches never rendered for the player beyond ~100m, ghillie suits were effectively useless and only really worn for the aesthetic. Since the LOD feature has been added more appropriately so that trees/grass will load at a distance properly when scoped, it helps for trees/bushes to actually provide some level of cover for the person hiding in them
invest in good ram
in big cities like zeleno or electro it is still noticeable but not that much anymore
- Many repeated assets
- Dated graphics and sound design
- Lack of complex environmental systems. RDR1, for example, has ecosystems of animals that hunt eachother.
- You have to run through relatively large and empty environments most of the time while playing, which makes it hard to ignore the above details.
Then of course, your 10-hour life in the game will come to an end because you have your LOD settings too high and didn't spot the dude camping in the bush from across the field. That's not fun. What's fun is spotting the guy across the field, flanking him, and being the one to kill him and get his gear. That's the nature of fun, competitive games. Rewarding gameplay triumphs over immersion, and these things directly contradict each other.
Hell, even if you aren't competitive, I'd argue DayZ is more fun with a podcast ready to go in the background for the lengthy treks and loot runs. Playing with less sound awareness can even be occasionally advantageous (though obviously not ideal). But having background media makes the game a lot more tolerable for when you do die.
Obviously once you're geared up, you'll be a lot more concerned about awareness. Unless you're on a server with a generous loot economy (which is basically everything except vanilla on certain community maps such as Namalsk or other popular ones).
What if i told you that DayZ has this too? :D
The wolves literally hunt other wildlife.
The Zeds also hunt wildlife.
And again, zeds don't hunt anything. They simply patrol a defined space. If an animals wanders into their patrol, they will aggro. Not the same thing as hunting, or an ecosystem, or anything. It's just dumb and lazy, really.
Yeah, i saw an Infected fighting/chasing a pig once..
I stopped to watch.. and just dropped dead...
You havent fully lived until you saw a bear fight off a pack of wolves.
Same thing happened to me once, i thought cool Zs and wildlife interac..... dead!
