And really, no amount of mods you can install can distract from the fact that it's a PvP-centric game with poor PvE compared to other online games you could've purchased.
For example, ever hear of Dying Light? It's open world. Has singleplayer. Has zombies. You don't have to spend hours figuring out how to host it. Check it out. It's on Steam. You might like it.
Dayz , at it's heart is a brutal survival game where you must
overcome the environment, infected and players as you compete
for minimal supplies in a dog eat dog world.
Respectfully suggest, try some community PvP servers.
There are tons of them. a lot of them water it right down
to CSGO type of gameplay some just play shopping and dressup.
Some have A/I some have Dino's. There is literally something for everyone..
Setting up a lan server is not hard, but I found it is a bit more work to install mods than a rental with a good UI. Also you probably chose one of the harder things to set up in AI npcs. It needs a bit of work to set up the waypoints, loadouts and triggers for each group you add.
It might be easier on a lan to ditch the AI npcs and toughen up the zombies a bit instead, by increasing their numbers, spawn points and adding door opening, using something like zombies everywhere & zens doorkickers, just a thought.
Dayz does actually make a decent single player / solo survival game, it just needs a bit of tweaking to up the challenge with no PvP.
I've got a few other survival games (Dying Light included) but my solo Dayz servers are the ones I play most, It just does a good job, of the basic survival, weather, temperatures (set colder), stamina (mod), wear and tear on items (I have reduced loot), and of course tougher and wider spawning zds.
It's easy to install and works with all 30 maps and you can spawn in anything
There's a free program that helps a lot with running dayz servers from home, it's called Omega Manager. Grab that and watch a few videos from scalespeeder and you'll be set.
If you have specific issues, you can always ask for help. There are quite a few of us that run Servers and would be willing to offer assistance.
from the launchers main page click servers on the left, then the community tab at the top right
type PVE into the filter and BAM
endless enjoyment for you of varying difficulties.
It’s simply incomprehensible that the addition of a single player function was ignored. I would immediately buy the game if there was single player. I'm not interested in multiplayer.
the primary game loop of the game from its inception was based around player to player interaction.
now, would/is a SP mode wanted by some? Yes, absolutely. Including me.
But the game was never intended to be a pure SP experience and we cannot expect devs to shoehorn an SP mode into a primarily MP game.
We do, however, have ways to play SP, like playing on hosted or local LAN servers, thanks to the devs.
Whenever I play, it's almost always on my own hosted LAN server.
The issue is that although playable as SP the game looses some of its appeal as it can feel very "dead". Now, if that's fine with you, great! The tools are there to let us have our SP fun, but there's zero onus on the devs to provide an SP "part" for us
I have a 60 person pure vanilla server that nobody ever plays that you could try. It's the equivalent of single player.
