Lack of Forest Foods
One would think there would be more food available to hunt/forage in a forest? Like berries or rabbits to hunt etc. Like I understand it makes the survival harder, though a few edible berries here and there.

There is plenty to eat if you know where to look.
Take the time to learn the game.
There are animals to kill and eat, every town has chickens
and pigs, there are fish, wolves and bears as well.

Rabbits are out there I believe, but you have to make traps to catch them most of the time. There's wolves, bears, deer, chickens, etc. There's plenty, but you have to learn to find them

Every town has at least one chicken. Also fruit trees.

Lots of mushrooms too if you wait around long enough to spawn them in.

food really is plentiful and frankly infinite, all you really need is a knife.

snare traps catch rabbits place one and wait about 15-20 mins and come back there will be one

chickens deer boars sheep wolves all have spawn areas.

you can farm and plant veggies takes time/ go to fruit trees if none on the ground just chop a fruit tree down and 1-3 fruit will appear hot spot for mushrooms are barns around the hay stacks last resort eat people but youll get sick if youre looking to settle down dont do this as you will eventually have perma giggles.

kill zombies they carry food sometimes about 1/10 zombies will have a food item

hope this helps

I have about 900 hours in the game. I am aware of chickens and chasing after the pricks like a rampant cleaver killer. I have not seen one rabbit in my experience, though I play on Official servers. Not into farming as in real life takes too long with little benefit. I was talking more about wild berries etc. Fruit trees I just give up on as never is fruit on them, or maybe 1 in 50. In regards to 'shrooms yes though are hard to find at times if one is not in the spawning area.

like i said chop down the fruit trees they will drop fruit always carry a hatchetyoull never see the rabbits thats why i said place a snare trap only way to get them as food just got to remember where you placed snare trap

I really, really wish they’d change the way in which fruit, mushrooms and stones spawn. Is it the way it is for optimization reasons?! How are you supposed to find a stone if you aren’t near another player without simply cheesing it and walking back and forth?

Eh, that little spawn system just bugs me. /rant

when u spawn: u always spawn close to the railroads that spawn small stones. u alone can trigger them to spawn.
so loot that buildings (u have to do that anyway as a freshie) close to the railroad and THEN check those railroads for stones. they'll be there ready to pick up.

I understand how it works. It’s just such an odd way to be. Maybe the one thing I don’t understand is the radius around yourself in which this stuff will spawn, like how big is it?

they spawn within a players radius of 25m and despawn after 100 seconds once a player is 25m or more away from it.

A few things:
1. Rabbits are not an AI animal you will see hopping around, on Official servers. They are only something you can catch with a trap.

2. Unless it has changed in the recent 1.24 update, cutting down fruit trees, does NOT drop fruit. Fruit under trees spawns the same way small stones and mushrooms spawn; by being in an area for a period of time. Area = Within about 100 meters, Time = About 3 minutes, on average.

3. Fruit, Mushroom, Stones spawning: Yes, they spawn in the manner they do for Server Optimization. If all those stones, mushrooms and fruit existed at all times like other loot, the server would freeze and crash. There are literally thousands of spawn points for these items.

Edit: Added "Apple" Event file.

Wow that’s a very fast despawn! Thanks for that little bit of info. I would have thought the spawn area would’ve been much bigger.
