Cooked meat made me sick

So I cooked some meat on a fire place made from sticks and rags. Watched the meat heat up and then change from pink to more of an orange / brown colour. Ate said meat. Got sick.

Is cooking meat bugged or did i do something wrong?

I didnt have a cooking pot at the time. I thought you were able to skewer meat but couldn;t get that to work either.

Ideas?

Branch only here and no problems. Are you trying to skewer it with a branch or a stick? Go to tree, cut branch and that's all you need for the skewer method. The branch cut into thirds (sticks) won't work. Cook to golden or browned texture.

You really need a cooking pot or a branch to cook meat. It's not like at the very beginning where you could sinply put the meat in the free slots of the fireplace. Because if you do that, meat will get burned directly and not turn to cooked status first. Make sure you use stick or pot.

Aim at fire and it should say "pose to fire" or something like that, then click using your mouse wheel.

Also..."some meat" doesn't happen to be human meat? That might be a reason too...

Hmm... I guess the cooking process is the same, but if you eat raw human meat there is a chance that you will get crazy.
The character starts laughing out loud randomly (or crying)
And at some point much later you will probably die.

While eating cooked human flesh doesn’t have any adverse side effects (yet), eating it raw can give you a brain disease called “Kuru” (yep it's a real disease). Symptoms include uncontrollable laughing, crying, shaking and eventually, death.

Acquired the brain disease thing. But the meat was cooked or at least looked cooked! First time eating human meat tho so could have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up. Shot myself after my toon kept crying and then got the twitches

Got to get my protein! Zed meat I doubt is gona taste very nice. No animals to kill as far as i can see..... so.....

Looks like I haven't been that wrong....maybe the Devs have sneaked in other side-effects from eating human-meat....or it might just have been a bug, where the meat looks cooked but isn't...
Have been hunting myself, deer and cow does change from raw to cooked and doesn't make you ill, at least it hasn't happened to me..
And why you've been starving? With all those apple trees around, there's really no need for that.

And for a bonus hint:
Make yourself a stone knife as soon as possible, takes up one inventory slot and you can, besides other things like cutting a branch from a tree or cutting shirts into rags, open cans with it...

Yeah normally dont have an issue with starving myself but was playing with 2 friends who are brand new to the game. We all got murdered a couple of times over the course of an hour or so and each time we spawned there was less and less food lol. Apple trees are good, but sometimes i can stand there for ages and just not find one lol.

After my friend killed himself by accident... he seemed more edible and appealing than the apples

I cooked some chicken yesterday and that was fine. So maybe a bug or I just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. Probably the latter.

I think maybe micromanaging how you cook in this game might be going a bit too in depth. I love the fact that there are details one would miss that become important, but sometimes it needs to be just "a game"
