You will reach a point where a shotgun blast out of nowhere in your ears results in a calm evasive manoeuvre rather than crapping your pants and these kinds of slip ups will happen less often.
Otherwise, just consider it a panic mechanic.
Good luck.
To the best of my knowledge, what you describe, is the Default Keybinding.
-Right Mouse click = ADS
-Right mouse HOLD = Raise weapon
-Middle mouse HOLD = Zoom (scroll wheel = change zoom level)
-Left mouse click = Fire/Use weapon
Best advice I can give you, is to stop using the middle mouse button to ADS when you already are holding the Right mouse button .. get your muscle memory re-adjusted to just use the Right mouse button as intended.
Not really, but.
The good news is, eventually you will not have so many "panicky"
moments as you learn and become used to the environment the
game creates.
