lets say theres a max amount of 16 pink radar caps and a minimum of 8; those radar caps will only start respawning back to max once the minimum amount of that specific item was reached.
u cant take out all the patrol jackets, berets and handguards out of this military base and expect an m16 to spawn back in instead. its better to just move on to the next location.
but yea, some servers can give u a quick impression and on others it will take more time to figure it out.
i have a simple three-liner on my server with some warnings for new players, the rest they have to figure out for themself.
most popular community servers use discord to get more details.
However, most admins aren't graceful about their items.xml edits and don't really understand the loot economy system. I'd guess that 90% of the Community servers have broken loot somewhere, just don't care, or even know. They generally will get defensive about asking about loot edits, and you'll get "play the server to find out" answers as they don't actually know as they don't play their servers as players anyhow, and just admin spawn everything for themselves.
People need to bombard those old youtube videos with comments about how it does not work anymore.
True. When it was a thing, heck .58? It got fixed pretty quickly.
I think the CSGO/CoD/participation-trophy folks coming from console is the reason. It's like some weird kind of desperation to just win...not die, have endless loot, etc.
I'm beginning to think after reading allot of posts here, youtube, and old timers like myself and many of you fine gentlemen here that the Console port is really to blame for allot of whats weird about DayZ both from Community and dev standpoints.
Although I can't really afford it, I am really tempted to start hosting again. Something totally vanilla...I think the only edit to make is vehicle persistence, otherwise leave all loot tables and settings as-is vanilla.
All the power to you if you start running a TRUE vanilla server, because it will most likely fill up pretty fast.
Let me know :)
Just an FYI, I love the idea of a PVE server with PVP zones...
It works on official servers and community servers but be aware
Most community servers have rules against loot cycling so you can get banned
but if you burn the loot you avoid getting in trouble as the evidence is gone and it works every time
PVE/PVP servers are fine with me! PVEZ Mod works great for such setups. What QOL mods do you like? I would be down for a monthly donation on any server that ran mim. mods with good PVE settings for survival.
a few QoL mods I like do things like resize a few items. Like the leather repair kit. Why on Earth does it take up 6 inventory slots? Many mods shrink it down to 2 or 3 slots.
Another one I like is called pristine repair. This one is really 'nonvanilla', though... But I still love it. Basically when you repair an item, it takes it from any level all the way to pristine, and only takes away one use of the repair item. But if you think about it in real life; do you really take a sewing kit to a damaged shirt, and use it two or 3 times before the shirt is undamaged? No, you use the kit once and the shirt is good as new.
Obviously codelock is needed. Standard combo locks can be brute forced in 20 minutes for the 3 number and a few hours for the 4 number.
Earplugs is a no-brainer. Cars are WAY too loud to drive in 3rd person without that mod.
I'm not a big fan of autorun.
I could go on for hours...
I wiped my server and am formulating a plan...
Never ran a repair mod, not sure about it, but I guess it would theoretically keep hording down as as long as you got repair kits for items, you don't need 20 of anything.
One I always liked was Junkyard dog for vehicle part savaging, makes all those wrecks actually useful.
More Doors or Even More Doors is nice for not having to make fences/gates that clip thru walls. Makes for cleaner bases when built in existing structures. No need for BBP with that mod. Then again on raid servers I just don't build as it's pointless.
It's basically a door that you can build in place of the vanilla gate so it actually fits in a door jam. I like it as I never could stand the clipping from those vanilla gates.
I like it better then BBP as with BBP you gotta police builds as folks generally build mental sky bases or 6x6x6 monstrosities that lag the F out of the server when filled with crap.
What I did not experimented on others commu servers & neither on official ones.
So, claiming that it doesnt work is really funny to read.
It will depend on how the loot is managed.
By my own personnal experience on those 2 commu servers, you should avoid such radical opinion.
If you set your items.xml to count in inventory, you can loot cycle all day long and the max number of M4s/AKs/9v/etc. will be reached and stuff will NEVER spawn.
Of course this only works on servers that have raiding enabled.
