Quality of Life Mods?
Hey folks, I was interested in what others thought of the "QoL" mods out there.

Some folks on my server feel that a "good" QoL mod makes things "easier" for players. Such as Unlimited Stamina, medical mods that can tell you exactally what sickness you have, +food, +weapons, etc.

With DayZ being the apocalypse, my take on it is QoL mods actually make things more challanging. Like, fuel stations run out of gas, more animals, some more crafting mods, etc.

I find it a tough balance to keep players happy, and am kinda moving to more Survival style on my server making things more "realistic" then what Vanilla currently has for features. Sure, I am loosing some players, but I kinda prefer the survival players as they don't seem to want things like shiney new indestructible vehicles, bed respawn, and the like. They also open waaay less tickets.

Thoughts? QoL for easy or QoL for an actual apocalypse?

For some it means things like "utility's" such as mods that improve
your FPS, For others it is literally a "silver tray" that hands them everything.
It is an opinion and opinions are subjective...

Heyho! i am just gonne copy+paste what i wrote in the official forums, as i think it fits the topic.

"That all depends what you think is "better gameplay".

Some like having a ingame map and markers..... But it completly takes away the aspect of "orientating and navigating the map". You just put a marker at a military and sprint towards that marker till your there.

Some people like "infinite stamina" as you can travel the map alot faster! But it turns PvP into "who flanks the flank the flankiest" and "Fullsprint zigzagging across a field". Not having unlimited stamina slows down the pvp quite a bit, makes it more tactical and you have to think twice if you really want to cross that big field. Also if you dont have stamina you dont need to bother how heavy your gear is.... so everyone will run around with a million items, looking like a tank.

Some people like Groupsystem, because it makes playing with your friends soooo much easier, as you wont constantly loose eachother. The flipside is, that you barely meet any solo players anymore, because everyone is running around in groups.

Some like heavy modded guns and armor.... But it completly devalues the guns that are not "overpowered modded". Some servers have crazy armor, where one can survive 8+ shots of a aks without any problem... which just feels off for me.

Some like Traders, as you start to develop a whole economy on the server and you have easy acces to good guns/outifts/cars, yada yada. But it also means that there is very little incentive to roam around smaller towns when the server has been running for a few weeks... When you die, you just run to your base, grab a bit of cash, go to trader and you are fully geared again. Which can get boring rather fast.

There is jus a few mods that are improving gameplay without a doubt. The first one is the Codelock mod, as vanilla locks can be cracked in a few minutes. Second is Buildingmods like DayZ Expansion and "Buildanywhere mod". And lastly you have the Storagemod MMG, it just adds a few nice crates that you can craft from planks and nails.

Most mods try and make it easier for the player, but at the same time they change the dynamic of DayZ immensly. Wether you like this change is up to you. "

- mod for telling players exactly what sickness they are suffering? BAD, because all of us are not medic IRL, so I doubt ingame it would be cool to be one.
The symptomes ingame are enough to understand what sickness you are suffering.
And even you can find on the net some informations about those symptomes, the sickness relationed to them & the way to heal it.
But using a mod for that, personnally I find it not interesting at all & it removes a part of the survival aspect of the game.

- Unlimited Stamina ?
The worst mod ever.
One of the main aspect of the game is to let you chose between going light or heavy, with all the impact of such choice on your stamina, and so on the possibility to run away from danger faster or not.
Another main aspect of the survival thing.

Just with those 2 mods you talked about, I personnally think they are the worst thing ingame.
Because you are turning a survival game into an erzatz (and a bad one) of Counter Strike or Call of Duty or PUBG kind of games.

Another time personnally, if I want to do a Battle Royal game, I launch a Battle Royal game.
If I want to do a CSGO game, I launch it.
Same for a Call of game.

If I want to play a football game, I launch a football game.
What you want with such mods is launching a basketball game with a mod to use your feet instead of the hands to grap the ball in your basketball game.

Thanks @Sebi1106 that is really helpful, and pretty much on-point with my thoughts as well.

Same for you @-reno-FR- totally agree.

We had a group mod, and Unlimited stamina for a while due to players kinda demanding it, but after a while and some PVP we removed both. Too exploitable, and pretty much Sebi1106 nailed it on the head...no one roamed much anymore, and stayed in groups. What both do to PVP is attorcious. I believe no server that allows PVP should have either. Like others have said, playing Battle Royale or CS or anyother squad game is the answer. Leave DayZ...well, DayZ I guess.

I appreciate everyones feedback allot. Been struggling with our server, and from now on I think sticking to mods that enhance DayZ, and not take away from it by adding features, that in all due respect, don't belong on the platform.

You're welcome !

One day, someone tried to rob a car I had in a garage.
I was nearly to kill the thief & suddenly I was killed by his friend.

I had the occasion to talk with my killer, & he gave me his point of view of the situation :D
It was highly funny :D

He saw "his friend" with a huge backpack, & told him : "nice, you looted in that garage a CAMO BackPack of 90 slots, nice"
His friend : "no no no, I found one, but a BLACK one".

Then, my killer understood that he was seeing ME, not his friend.
So, he suddenly & in urgence aimed at me & shot me while I was raising my shotgun at the back of his friend :)

Such moments would never have been possible with a Group Mod acitvated.

It was so fun that we decided to group ingame & play all together :D

Also friendly fire can really be cool :=)

Yeah, friendly fire was one of the main reasons we dropped that mod! Nice!

Never understood why people call it "friendly" fire.
Nothing even close to friendly about it..

That's an unlimited supply...
Gave me a good idea though, how plausible it would be to do would be another question?

Fuel pumps take electricity to function in the real world.
So, working generator required to pump fuel in game.
Have to check into that one a bit deeper & see if doable, but I like the idea..

I have this running, its a good mod. You can set the amount of fuel at each location, let 'em run dry, refill them, whatever. Wish you needed the generator, but a truck battery is required to get them pumping...uses the entire charge, so its nice and makes battery chargers/generators/solar with while items to use.

I like it as time goes by, fuel is gonna become an issue. I set the pumps at the PVP zones the fullest, so eventually folks will HAVE to use the PVP Zones or hoof it everywhere.
