Search YouTube .. literally hundreds of Tips and Tricks videos. This is just a few:
- ScaleSpeeder Gaming = mostly Server Tutorial, but does do some "beginner" game play tips.
- FreshSpawns = Some "info" shorts, but mostly just entertaining game-play
-WOBO = more Technical info than Tutorials, but it really helps to understand "how" the game works
Most are made on "community" servers as well, they do not play the same as vanilla
as the spawn rates are pretty much always "tweaked".
Not saying they are all bad, just make sure they are ACTUAL "tips & Tricks"
Vids made on a vanilla server...
For example, watching "babynades" or "soursweet" vids CAN be entertaining, but,
they are VERY staged and edited making them pretty useless for "learning" the
actual game.
No matter what people say.... no matter how many videos you watch....
It is insanely hard to get the hang of DayZ unless someone holds your hand for the first 10 Hours. Its possible... but a friend guiding you will make the learning process alot faster.
You need to know how to navigate. You need to know which towns to skip. You need to know how to fight zombies. You need to know how to approach cartain dangerzones. You need to know what to carry. You need to know what to avoid to not get sick.
There is just SOOO many things that you can do wrong and every single mistake will lead to a death.
If you dont have a friend that can play with you, my best advice would be to stay close to the coast and find someone. Talk to them. Just roll with them. (expect to be shot tho)
Eventually youll find someone that lets you follow them on their journey. Watch what they do. move with them. Talk to them.
DayZ is VERY VERY VERY difficult if your trying to learn it. Especially when your solo.
Id suggest avoiding PvE servers tho.... it teaches you a false sense of security. That will get you killed over and over and over again when you transition to a "real" server.
Also avoid official servers. They are FLOODED with cheaters.
it's not SO bad as a solo, but I would definitely do some light reading on the wiki dedicated to dayz. it'll give you a general idea of how best to approach this game, an if you dig a little, you'll find some nifty crafting recipes to remember when you're out wandering the wilds.
the wiki i first used and continue to refer back to for reference on crafting/building is here:

Good luck, survivor

I wouldn't do any of this. Weird advice. Skipping towns? Worrying about dying? this is almost all wrong-headed.
And dayz is not *that* difficult.
okey mister "PvE server admin".
most of the time its not worth it to grind thru all of cherno for example. Your better off sprinting to mogilevka and start looting there... Because, contradictionary to whats happening on your 4 player PvE server.... most of the spawncitys will be empty af on servers that are populated with 100+ people. You are basically just wasting 25 minutes to get a chambered amphibia, a axe and a sewingkit.... Hooray....
but what do i know... i only have 20k hours, and you obviously know bettter, from all your experience on your pve server with a peak of 4 people on it.
DayZ sure is easy when there are no other players around that take loot or try to kill you....
But please keep in mind that some of us actually play the game, instead of a "PvE carebear spinoff".
Have a good one.
