Endless search
So, I've spent the last 2 hours desperately searching for metal wire and pliers to build my first base with and in just the last 10 minutes found 2 sets of pliers, but no metal wire. I've been to 2 towns/cities and searched all the places you would think to have those items. I've searched industrial facilities, construction sites, farms, every car in between ( I often find metal wire in cars ) and yet, nothing. I found a pristine Deagle in a portajohn, enough tetra to make sure the entire server can cure whatever might ail them, every piece to make a full NBC suit twice over, a remote detonator, I even found a 40mm grenade inside of a teddy bear, but no metal wire. All those finds were today mind you. I'm not complaining, I've quickly fallen in love with this game, but thought this to be a little absurd.

From my experience on dayz these days they put enough that people are gonna have to fight over instead everyone get one and the game gets boring.

Raided bases are a good source of building materials. Most people don't bother dismantling breached gates, so you can detach the wires with your pliers.

Mind you, the more elaborate your base is, the more enticing it looks to raiders. I just raided some sloppy crew today by dismantling some of their perimeter walls, and built a raid tower out of the planks, nails, and logs. Then I crawled over their glitched double gate.

What I needed: Pickaxe, rope, 4 sticks, meat tenderizer

What I left with: 2 grenade launchers, 14 boom nades, several pox nades, 2 NVG, black plate, AUR AX...

The more effort you spend on your base, the more likely it is that someone pops in to see what's good.

also keep an eye out for barbed wire, pliers can remove the barbed and make it regular wire.

The game is useless. You can't spend half your life looking for things. And after the wipe everything is gone again.

It's not absurd that you can't find what you need that fast and also you spent two hours in two towns which is absurd to me if it ain't a HUGE town, also two towns is not that much tbh or two hours of playing and you say you ain't complaning when you are actually complaning and call things absurd! You had a goal/mindset and expected to get everything you needed to build a base in two towns or two hours of playing. You failed and now find it absurd and this is why we are here. You have to be insanely lucky to get a base running within just two hours of playing. This is not the game "rust" or like other games where you can build a base as soon as you pretty much have spawned in or after just two hours of playing (especially as a solo player)

If i should tell you a specific number of time playing before you have the basic just to build a fence or base as a solo it would probally be around 5-10 hours of playing, with that said, you still have at least 8 hours of playtime to be done. Also keep in mind that u need to avoid death or have a shelter to store your things before you lose it all to that death

It really depends on the server. Here is the vanilla default spawn for metal wire:

<type name="MetalWire">
<nominal>70</nominal>
<lifetime>14400</lifetime>
<restock>0</restock>
<min>50</min>
<quantmin>-1</quantmin>
<quantmax>-1</quantmax>
<cost>100</cost>
<flags count_in_cargo="0" count_in_hoarder="0" count_in_map="1" count_in_player="0" crafted="0" deloot="0"/>
<category name="tools"/>
<usage name="Industrial"/>
<usage name="Farm"/>

Here you can see that a min of 50 will spawn on the server, with a nominal of 70. This is from a vanilla items.xml file. I am pretty sure all Official Servers will have this setting.

However, if you are playing on a Community Server, well, who knows. Community Server Admins will generally change item spawns for specific items for a multitude of reasons.

For reducing wire, it's a good chance the Admin for the server wants to prevent base building, or reduce it, by making the wire really hard to find. It's an easy fix to reduce base building, or whatever, by reducing an item layers can use. This is frequently done with sniper rifles and tier 3 weapons fyi.

Or your just getting DayZed...unable to find the one item you are looking for...that's been a thing since day 1. I personally feel Bohemia has some kind of mystical code to do this!

I used to have that problem with pliers, now I am having it with nails. I didn't find any nails when I wasn't actively looking for them either so that base just isn't gonna happen.

Best advise I can give you is to go to areas with dense industrial loot to "brute force" whatever it is you're looking for. Zelenogorsk is obvious but may also be very dangerous.

ya, i always forget there is a limit to the loot spawned. same with vehicles and animals. once the limit is reached it will not spawn unless used, destroyed or killed.

I'm really not complaining. And how do you know I was searching for everything needed for base building in those two hours? Is it possible that I had logs and planks cut, ropes, sticks and nails stored and tools in my inventory? It's very possible, in fact ( as stated in the post if you could be bothered to pay attention ) those 2 hours were dedicated to finding metal wire and pliers because everything else was prepared. Try to keep up. What was absurd to me ( again, if you could be bothered to pay attention ) was that I found everything for 2 full NBC suits ( generally harder to find than metal wire ) a remote detonator, a gold Deagle etc before I found metal wire and pliers. Context my friend, context. And yes, they were both big cities I was searching in.

I found that out after logging off. I'm sure that will make it a bit easier. Cheers.
