Contaminated zones
Is there a way of knowing that a bomb/missile is about to hit and temporarily contaminate a town, city or military base? Yesterday I was inside of a zone when it hit, tonight I was just outside of it and walking towards the soon to be contaminated zone when it hit.

I think its suppose to be a loud explosion or bang that let you know.
SaengSom 28 FEB 2023 a las 0:58
As I know there is "no sign" of an upcoming contamination other than the explosion itself as @Kisamefishman statet already.
What we do is to go to a area known to be possibly contaminated and watch it from a distance. If contamonated you will see yellow smoke covering the area.
Don't go there then. Just wait, or better pass it and come back later again.

I would like to know what exactly happened to you when "it hit", as you say? How much time did you have to leave from this point on? Were you able to flee, or did you just die?

I think they probably did it like that to keep people from camping towns or what not like they did back in the day.

When I heard the incoming strike I fat fingered my keys and wasn't able to get my gas mask on so I got poisoned. If you have a gas mask and a lot of bandages you can get out of it rather unscathed ( all things considered ) but again, I messed up. If you get poisoned, that's pretty much it for you unless you're lucky enough to be right next to a clinic/hospital that's fully stocked. Blood loss, vomiting etc. All the good stuff.

As I always made sure not to go into a cont'd area I never experienced that, but it's good to know now. Thank you!

However I was poisened many times in the beginning of me playing the game not knowing _anything_ about it.
I didn't eat rotten fruits or mushrooms as I know they upset my stomach in real life as well but I drank water from both, wells (fountains) and rivers. and mybe there is a 50/50 chance to stay healthy or not. I don't know that for real.
I also got sick out of nothing/not knowing why and I couln't get healthy again even I ate Tetracillin pills I found in a hospital.
I don't know how many attempts I needed to survive longer than only a couple of (in game)hours until I now, together with a good friend, having been able to set up a very well equipped base.

However, getting poisened in game is a pain in the back. :)

Never drink out of rivers or ponds in game and only fill up your canteen or water bottle from those sources if you have chlorine tablets. I totally understand, my first 5-10 lives I didn't know what to look out for, now when I go into a town I'm not just looking for guns and/or food, I stop at every clinic/hospital as well because the different meds you get are essential. I mostly avoid anything that will make me ill, but better safe than sorry.

Yes, now I know, and I am always on the lookout for hospitals and their medics.
We have lots of chlorine tablets now, and I also keep chlorinated water in our base.
Just in case :)

have seen people on here talk about some "red flare" before a strike, although i have never seen it. so unsure if they jerking around or if a server mod.

if you run as you hear it incoming you should be ok for the most part (depending on size of strike and if you run the right direction). i have gotten caught in a few town when a strike hit and instantly started running out of area. i got the coughs while in the gas, but got out before the sickness set in. so lucky imo.

youll hear artillery guns and whistling sound of the shells falling other than that hard tell where its going to land
Topher 28 FEB 2023 a las 8:55
On vanilla if you are inside the target area that a toxic strike is about to take place then there is a red flare in the sky 1 minute before the impace for about 15-20 seconds. it is centred on the area and in the sky so during the day it can be very hard to spot but easy at night as walls etc. take on a red hue as they do with a red headlamp but a little bit dimmer but over a much wider area.

If you hear the artlllery firing, a distant boom, and you kow you are in a dynamic target area look up t see if you spot the flare.

The screetch of an incoming shell should be your cue to GTFO. Sprinnt towards the edge of town, mil area or whatever you are in as you have a good 30 seconds untill the gas spreads out to fill the target area so you should be able to clear the ara with at most 1 bleed.

If you are in a multi storey building consider sheltering in place by running to be at least on the second floor. 3rd flloor if you use the USA weird way of counting floors. But this may leave you exposed to snipers by being stuck on a roof unable to descend and a concealed sniper out of town will easily see you

You will hear a very distinct explosion sound when the poison gas cloud hits the target which gives you about 10 seconds (or less) to get out but before that you can see the "red flare".
