Directional sound problems in PvE
Hi just came back to DayZ this week and really enjoy playing it on my single player server. There is one problem I have noticed and that is the directional sound.
Is anyone else having problems working out what directions Zombie noises, Event explosions, footsteps and even the sound of chickens clucking are coming from?

I've looked everywhere online, YouTube, looked for best sound settings on Dayz but alas no joy.

Im currently using The Logitech Pro-X headset ( with Blue-balls, oops I meant Blue-voice)

I'm also using a program VoicemeterBanana - which i use for other games with the compression set to 5-6, which in other games raises the noise of footsteps.

Not in DayZ it's like the sound is all around me no matter what sound it is.

what are your audio setups?
Do you also have same issue?

If anyone could help me out with this i would be very grateful. Kiss Kiss

Simple hifi stereo setup works best for me, no issues.
(Beyerdynamic A2 headamp, Beyerdynamic T1 (2. Gen) headphones, soundcard set to stereo direct (pure) without any sound customizations.)

Bro you fixed my issue, thank you but now there is another problem. I dropped windows sound quality down to Fm stereo, then I could work out where every noise was coming from.and was playing for like an hour then there was a faint beep in left headset speaker and i lost sound, has happened twice today. Any Ideas

I have a Steel Series Arctis 7 headset. I searched Reddit/Steam/all over for an answer to the directional sound. I reinstalled DayZ, messed with computer sound settings, game sound settings, downloaded steel series sonar software and still no directional sound. Sound is fine in every game except DayZ

For anyone still having this issue, this was my solution -

When I booted up DayZ, I looked at my computer sound output on my taskbar. I had selected 'SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming (SteelSeries Sonar Virtual Audio Device)'. If you scroll down further, you will see a mixer tab and a spatial sound tab. When I selected the SteelSeries Sonar, the spatial sound is turned off and there is no option to change that, it is just OFF no matter what. I had to change my sound output to Headphones (2- Arctis 7 Game). When I selected this output there was then more options for the spatial sound tab when you scroll down in the computer output settings - (1. OFF), (2. Windows Sonic for Headphones), (3. Dolby Atmos for Headphones). I selected #3 Dolby Atmos and my directional sound now works in DayZ.

I don't why the Arctis sonar software turns off spatial sound. In the software I even selected Spatial Audio under Game tab. All the options in the Sonar software didn't help with DayZ. Also, other games don't give me an option to change spatial sound under my computer output settings. It seems to only be DayZ. It took me hours of troubleshooting to figure this out myself. I hope this helps someone else and saves some time.

Odd. Sounds like the software for the headphones is by default setting sound to mono instead of stereo. Assuming they’re referring to stereo as “spatial audio”…..

SteelSeries (AKA Nahimic) is garbage software .. None of it works the way it should, and even though it says it supports DayZ, it does NOT work in DayZ .. it's the one thing I absolutely loathe about my MSI Motherboard ..Namhimic (AKA SteelSeries audio).
