Can't light fire
I only came back this week, but went to YouTube to see how its done, making a fire. Got all the necessary items, lighter in hand but can't or won't let me light it. Any help would be awesome.

6 x Rags
6 x firewood
10 x short sticks
8 x bark/kindling
1 x lighter
and even chucked in a piece of paper.

take a short stick to your hand and combine it with a rag or bark or piece of paper to build a fireplace.
afterwards put the fireplace to the ground and the lighter to your hands and you'll get the option to light it when close.
you can always add more firewood to your liking.
you can also interact with the fireplace by opening your inventory when close.
you can also use the hearths in houses to build a fireplace.

Also you can build a firestarter from sticks and bark the same way
as the actual fire if the lighter won't work.

Also you have to put the fire outside. Lighting fires inside only works in a fireplace or if the ceiling is very high (15 ft at least).

I had no idea that the lighter is not working.

You can replace that, with matches, light flare, or the always useful improvised hand drill.

Hand drill = bark + 1 stick

it is working i think...well not sure, but I got caught in a storm and it got damp...so that's why I think it was having a seizure :)

Yes, sometimes one of the items may be drenched or damped and we dont even notice.

When it rains, sometimes trying to make a fire under a big tree gets you some cover from the weather.

drill bit works....just not when raining,

I think you can dry your clothes faster by taking them off and leaving them next to the fire. Probably best to do this indoors, tho.

100% correct, remove ALL clothing and place by the fire. Most of it you can
wring the water out of to make it dry even faster.

Just on the floor a couple ft away from the fire will be fine, doesn't have to be very close.
