I'm sure once modding support becomes available some mods will have global inventory safety without loss.
But we work hard for our gear and a tiered system of simple secure storage is a requirement in a survival game IMO, stockpile food, differnet ammo etc needs to go somewhere otherwise people will just break gameplay to 'win'.
as long as it doesnt turn into epoch.....then thats fine. ther ewas no point attacking ppls bases in that mod
You may need to reword "store gear safley, i.e so bad guys can't just find it and take it?" because it came across as untouchable storage. Sorry if i interrupted it differently.
In my own personal opinion this whole basecamp idea within any title portraying a world of permanent death in survival games is fundamentally flawed, simply because you really don't loose that characters stored possessions or even a percentage of the stored possessions when that character is "permanently dead", just personal belongings on said character are lost. This leaves very little connection to a character once a basecamp is established.
Which then circumvents the permanent death which has been proven in the mods just like Epoch to have become redundant, once you've enough resources stored in your "global inventory" personal safe, locked cars that can't be broken into within a post apocalyptic era.
Death is really irrelevant and the same could be said for DayZ and all the other survial titles once there is no risk versus reward in relation to decisions you make and consequences surrounding ones character (permanent loss). The CLE will have some impact on this within the world of DayZ as loot will become rarer and hopefully some form of loss will be tied to one's character (soft-skills and rare items which are hard to come across).
Sorry for waffling on Shoshin this isn't direct at you just me venting a little about the flawed concept of harsh survival & permanent death and how easily it can be circumvented. Leaving no harsh permanent death in any survival genre titles on the market while they claim to be harsh survival games (including DayZ).
well you can stack it all behind the 10th hill after the "end of world line" if you like..never reached the border when the game said no more...even in arma 2 with a jet. well i got bored flying 20minutes in straigth line lol
Other thing you can do is use a picklock. One of my former friends used this all the time, although he got robbed awfull lot. Got to say though, it's pretty obvious you have a camp or loot in a building if its the only one which is locked. It's very easy to just hit a door and unlock it. However with your fists it won't work, so a new spawn will not be able to get your loot that quick without a melee weapon or gun.
You can also make a tripwire with a grenade. If they step on the wire, it explodes. Downside is that you will need to know where you placed them before running into them yourself. As well as Atomic said you can place an unpinned grenade in a barrel or tent or even a backpack eventually, so when they pick it up, it will explode instantly.
