Seriously though, why use a rod, when you can just throw a hand grenade in the nearest pool and get the job done instantly?

I'd try it myself, but I used my last Hand Grenade to commit suicide with.

well to come back to your question:
people use explosive and flashbangs mostly against campers or in desperate situations
the smoke grenades are useful if you have to run away from enemys with long-range guns

Grenades make great traps. Using metal wire and sticks you can make a tripwire and attach a grenade to it. Shortly after the tripwire is tripped, the nade detonates. Also, a live grenade can be put into a container like a backpack without detonating. Once taken out or said container is equipped, it detonates. Place a loot filled pack on the ground for someone to find. Its likely they'll nab that nade and seconds later BOOM. Flash nades work too if you wanna suprise someone. You can also use smokes in your hand to create a trail. The trail may follow you, but it makes a nice cloud if you zigzag, great for escapes over open terrain. Not everyone is willing to fire off half their ammo into a cloud of smoke without any guarantee to hit.
