The Mosin:

Pros:

- Powerful due to the 7.62mm rounds.
- Long ranged
- Accuracy

Cons:

- Easily breaks
- Bolt action
- Useless at close range compared to automatic rifle
- Useless at long range due to incompatibility of a long-range scope
- Only useful at medium range with a PU Scope
- Fits up to a maximum of 5 rounds

(Personal) Conclusion:

I don't see any reason to use the Mosin at any range. In close range you would easily be taken down by any automatic rifle. The Mosin works good at medium ranges, however only with a PU Scope. At long range the Mosin is near to useless, any rifle with a long-range scope would easily win over the Mosin. There is just no reason to use it, it gets ruined after about 20 rounds.

Wait until Bears are implemented, you spray your smal 9mm rounds into them and it just keeps coming towards you.
Mosin will become one of the best Bear Killer Guns if they implement big bears with bones big and strong , nearly bullet proof and unstopable when in aggro mode.

Think of the Mosin more like an Elephant (Bear) Killer Weapon.
You Shoot Bears fromMedium Ranges. And against them you need a bigger gun than some kind of mashine pistol which hopefully will be highly inefective against them.

Honestly when I picked up the blaze the first time, my first thought was elephant gun. I felt a similar feeling when I found the one and only longhorn I have ever held, I felt like an 18th century century hunter for just a moment.

The 'spray and pray' types with theit auto weapons usually never even know where I shot their buddy from, or where the shot that broke their leg came from, and can not reach me anyway if they do get lucky and 'see' me. I enjoy the 91/30 with PU just a fiun weapon and again as stated once large pedatory animals are inroduced, your little 9mm will be essentially useless.

BTW back when stationed in Alaska went Bear hunting on Kenai. Was using a M-1944 Short Mosin with 7.62X54R 220gr semi jacketed hollow points, loaded 'hot'. Took 5 rounds in chest of a Brown to knock him down, 2 shoulder shots, 3 in chest. Still breathing when we got up to her, put my 1911 in her ear and dumped all 7 in there to bounce around to kill her.

I don't know how you can not sound locate, I don't have any problems figuring out where sounds come from. Other than the random background sounds player or 'infected' sounds not hard to locate, based on situational awarness of where sounds could of originated from.

Well all measuring aside, I personally like my automatics as small side arms (preferably silenced) to my sniper rifle, for various obvious reasons, but some of the automatic rifles double for both purposes essentially if you are good with them so why not? ;)

The main principle I live by though is, if it shoots bullets and the alternative is not having something that shoots bullets the brand and caliber doesn't matter much.

You can have 10000€ headphones and dayz sound engine will still be ♥♥♥♥. Zombie yells at you, you turn your head, sound still comes from the same direction. Sometimes you don't even hear shots, even if the dude shooting is 100m away from you and has a m4

Early on yes anything is preferable to nothing. I even like the Sporter 22 with 30rd mag as .22 ammo is all over. Again I use the .357 Magnum and Repeater early on as no magazines required, the my next find is the long 12ga pump. M91/30 usually found by 3rd or 4th farm or rural ville searched. Usually by 2nd or 3rd police station or car find a Glock, mag, and suppressor. I spend more time finding and hiding the AK's, M4's and other weapons so others can not 'find' them.

Oh baby a couple of patches ago I was having a field day with the pump action, but since I heard something about a damage nerf I have not really tried them since.

But from the "testing" I did with shotguns, it seems like they nailed the idea of them, compared to the mod, where shotguns were about as useful as a BB gun.
