crawling zombies?

was in a town near nw air field and saw a crawling zombie or prone zombie it scared the ♥♥♥♥ out of me at first because it was fast for crawling zombie. have you guys seen these guys a well have you not answer below plz

If you're in a server with other people someone might have shot the zombies leg or hit it with a weak melee weapon and caused it to crawl; and never finished it off.

Yes, you can break their legs.

When they implement respawn mechanics for the infected, shooting them in the legs so they only crawl might actually be useful and might hinder other infected from spawning...of course just pure speculation here...
