Where's a good place to find weapons and ammunition?

I started replaying DayZ after the .60 update and so far things actually seem pretty nice. The game actually runs well now. But one thing that has had me a bit frustrated is that I'm having a very hard time finding a good weapon and ammunition. Mostly ammunition, I've come across more guns than I have bullets for them, although I'm having a hard time finding good weapons. I'm searching areas that are supposed to have a high loot yeild (Cherno, Balota, Military Base not far from Balota) and walking away empty handed, areas that used to be goldmines for ammuntion. I know they change around the spawn tables so it's hard to look up a video or guide thats still relevant, so that's why I'm posting here. Does anyone know any good places to find good weapons or ammunition that relatively close to the shore? Thx!

Houses have ammo, be sure to look in clothing. My friend has 120 rounds of .308, I have 60 rounds of 357. As for other guns, M4 is in heli spawns and rarely, in public houses. The fancy stuff is mostly at heli spawns.

My favorite place to go as a new spawn is Gorka police station, usually has at least 2 weapons in there

those green guardhouses always spawn guns and ammo, almost all rifles spawn there exept for obviously vss svd aug m4
was 3 scoped winchesters in the last one i checked :)

Yeah I second the green guard shacks, they are goldmines for weapons, ammo, food and water. Better than some of the military structures..

definatelty, somtimes after looting nwaf on a bad day the only good stuff i leave with is from them :)

what do you recommend? keep the AK-74 that i have two mags for but limited ammo for(the only ammo i have for them are in the mags, about 20 rounds each) or keep my AKM which i have 1 mag for but plenty of ammo for?

Iirc, the less people there are in an area the more likely it is to spawn more loot.
And the further from the coast you are, the more likely you are to encounter higher quality loot.

you can swap your ak74 for a ak74U that will fit in your backpack ;) then you can keep both :D
