DayZ Survival Guide
So a great idea the Devs should implement is a in-game survival guide.

Much like the survival manual in The Forest it could explain how the mechanics of the game could work.

How to craft things, what is required.

explain how the medical system works with infections and disease.

Weapons and rounds information

Players could spawn with it and refer back to it for information about how to make the most of your environment.

One of the most immersion breaking aspects of the game is picking up and item and that item telling me how to use it. For example picking up 9mm ammo it tells you that the rounds go in a pistol.

How on earth do I know this? Do the rounds have instructions written on them.

This is where the survival guide could come into play, you simply look up in the manual the type of ammunition and find out all the information you need.

Anyway quite simply it would resemble the survival guide found in The Forest or Project Zomboid.

No.

Just no.

The original allure of DayZ for me was because it had no tutorial. You had to just figure it out.

getting lost was always fun for me, even if it meant starving/dehydrating/freezing to death in the middle of the woods lol

The original allure was a hardcore zombie survival experience with perma death. Now there are bases death is only inconvenience.

The guide wouldn't need to tell you how to play the game, but more have information in it you already get when you pick up items.

For example. When you pick up a CR527 Carbine it says "The CR527 Carbine is a bolt-action magazine-fed, light weight, intermediate range 'bush gun' chambered for the popular 7.62x39mm cartridge"

Really? How on earth does the player know this. Picking up items automatically gives away all kind of lame immersion breaking information. The Mosin for example even has a brief history on the weapon.

If you put things like this in a survival guide or handbook that makes sense.

It also means players will make the most of all the mechanics and are at least aware of how a lot of things work.

The DayZ game play is getting pretty deep and it isn't blatantly obvious what all the items uses are, especially in the realm of crafting.

The Forest book manual is lovely, its very well made and it gives you a sense of suport, but no. No. This is crude, raw, unforgiving game. Confort is not included.

For the first time I agree with Nica.

Things like: Press F to take, or Hold F to take to your hands is absolutely unnecessary. Figure it out, or die trying.

They are just visual polution. Less is more.

P.S. I use wiki a lot
