He got a percentage, not all of it.
He has his reasons. Look it up. Simply assuming everything is stupid, you will be wrong 90% of the time.
dean hall sold dayz, along time ago to BI.
and he sold it before it was avaiable on steam ...
so all your precious money goes to steam and BI.
if you are interrested in dean's thoughts ...

Well, I suppose my takeaway after reading the comments is:
There are alot of passionate people that clearly care a great deal about DayZ. Any way you shake it, that in itself is a very good thing.
Fortunately for the DayZ Development Team, and all of you - We have quite a long time ahead of us with Dean at the helm, and a long list of awesome features and content for the next year.
Past that, I need the help of all of you, the passionate DayZ fanbase to keep driving DayZ towards that next great horizon. Bohemia Interactive has every intent to continue developing DayZ past the 1.0 release and beyond. And despite what Dean may think about being able to start work on his next project when DayZ no longer needs his day to day participation, I -know- he won't be able to stop himself from getting involved, and having his two cents heard.
That said, I don't think it's our business how much Rocker (or anyone in the team for that matter) is making.
hes going back home btw .... becuase atm he lives in czech republic and is not speaking the language of that country, maybe wants to be back in New zealand with his family and friends.
start to make his own studio and make some even more better games.
and btw dean is just laughing when someone asks about his ferrari,
cause he hasnt got one.
Wow, You understand that this comment could be considered libellous right?
At the very least, it is utterly stupid and without foundation. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
He sold the rights to the game to Bohemia and in return was given a seat on the dev team, recieved a lump sum up front payment (and I would assume an undisclosed royalty option) The exact terms and numbers of the agreement have never been disclosed but Dean did say once in a post on the original DayZ forums that he had been compensated generously by Bohemia and that the amount was considerably more than the industry average for such an arrangement.
As far as the near future of the game goes, I see Hall as more of a mouthpiece for the game than anything else. I'm sure he still contributes ideas but his days of "steering the ship" have most certainly passed. Hicks seems to have made a smooth transition into that role from what I can tell.
Lets face it, Dean had some visionary ideas which have left an unmistakable mark on the face of gaming into the forseeable future. He also had some pretty bad ideas, his programming skills were far from legendary (though he did an amazing job with what he had to work with). He is famous for his groundbreaking ideas in game design rather than programming, thats all I mean by that...
But to get back to the point, what ever this game manages to become or not become, the responsibility lies solely on the shoulders of the team which Bohemia have assembled to work on it.
As far as I am concerned, Dean Hall is pretty much along for the ride at this point and those of us who love the game owe him at least some small gratitude for getting this thing rolling 28 months ago...
If DayZ was on Kickstarter, you'd definitely have a valid case.
