DO NOT TOUCH the setting OVERALL QUALITY right now under the video settings.
There is a bug that if you mess with the Overall Quality settings you will get stuck in a low resolution that you can't fix simply through the in game settings without first going through the steps in the video.
Follow his instructions exactly. It worked beautifully for me to fix the problem.
Why do the overall quality to "very low" ? Becouse it lowers setting of the game that are not changable ingame!!!!111 So if you want max fps, you need to go trough this "very low" overall setting and only then start tweaking your game.
How to fix 640x480 thingie. Simple. Vid settings THEN user interface. There is another resolution "gadge" there. Set it to max (it will be your native res). After you do, go back to vid settings AND YOU GRAPHICS ARE FIXED. Go trough all the settings and set them as you like , close the game, fix the cfgs in documents/dayz (for max fps settings)
I have never selected VERY LOW on the Overall Quality.
I merely opened Overall Quality, which was set to custom, never changed it, left it where it was (hit custom again to close the window) and suddenly everything went crazy. My screen went to a very low resolution all by iteslf.
This is the exact same issue the video describes happenig when someone accesses the Overall Quality.
I tried adjusting every setting, and even though I was able to improve it somewhat, nothing worked to restore my resolution to the cripsness it was originally. Short of taking the steps Nina outlines in her sticky in the General Forum, there was nothing else I could do . .except what this video outlines step by step..
It is a very wasy fix.
This issue with the Overal Quality settings is a known bug. It might not affect everyone. But it is affecting a significant number of people. Many others have tried the solution outlined in the vidoe after trying everythign else and it worked like a charm.
Your solution of going to the vid settings then the user interface did not work, and infact, until I followed the instructions in the video, I ddn't even have all the possible resolutions I should have had. Once I followed the steps in his video, they were all restored, just as he exlains you will.
I do respect you and your opinion. However, in this case, you are wrong.
Now whether or not this is the cause of thsi particular player's issues, I don't know which is why I asked if he had checked his system's video settings first.
