Is it a big problem in DayZ? No, not really. Your body sits there for like 30 seconds after you log out, which for most is a enough of deterrent to stop them from combat logging.
Do you really have to ask? Lol..
Knocked some kid out with a sporter the other day, he was fully kitted, decent gear. He ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ combat logs and survives with his gear in tact... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way out.
Yes it took me over 30 secs to get to his body due to not knowing if he had mates to back him up by the time I got there he logged. Waited about 5 minutes but he knew he had to stay away for longer. So if you play it clever like some, your at a disadvantage to those kinds of kids who combat log, they know they have a small window to log before you finish them.
nice story bro ... which surely never happened - because if you disconnect while unconscious your character dies..
Clasically that's combat logging, but technically not. In my case, I assumed he logged after getting back up, and myself with my playstyle by checking treelines and hiding spots in case he had team mates, which is techincally combat logging.
Technically what you're doing isn't combat logging as long as you haven't been shot at in some time, you're not bleeding and you're not being camped in a building.
As a person who's played well over 4k hours of DayZ mod and about 60 hours of DayZ, it's my pet hate that people logout in any combat situations just to save their gear. Yes it takes time to find, but if you loot the right places it takes barely any time to get your gear back.
As a side note, logging out in that situation breaks the immersiveness of the game and it's probably why 90% of people get bored because they do ♥♥♥♥ like that. They never lose gear, never have to re-loot, never have proper fights and get super bored. I guess they don't even realise what their doing, and maybe this post will help others in realisng the errors of their ways and get some more fun out of the game.
I think your problem is that you were using a .22; if you had something with some stopping power the dude wouldn't have recovered so quickly, if at all. More likely he went prone than got knocked out. I've been shot with .22s and Makarovs and only took minor equipment damage.
30rnd sporter is godlike mate, dunno what you're on about xP
But yes that's true, he probably got up and logged, still doesn't make it a right thing to do.
Might as well use a BB gun. I got headshot with a sporter once and it only lowered my dirt bike helmet from pristine to damaged, my characer didn't seem to notice. Sure it shoots fast, has low recoil and 30 rounds, but considering you can hit someone with 5-10 rounds and they'll keep running it seems like a wash. I've been using the M4 ever since they started spawning in the military tents and people usually drop long before they get the chance to take cover and log off. Before that it was the AKM with similar results.
If you just wound someone, then they get a chance to hide and patch themselves up, they are way more likely to log off since you got the drop on them. Alternately, setting up a nade trap or landmine in the places people will probably take cover can be fun.
Not that it's 'a right thing to do,' but in a game like this it is to be expected. I usually just mutter a few choice words, shrug and lay down an explosive where they logged off at. ;)
Absolutely nothing wrong with this. If your assailants can't catch you before you log out that is their failure, they are given 30 seconds to kill you, so long as they can stay in contact with you.
If they can't maintain contact that's their hard luck.
Further more, if some one begins to shoot at you there is no problem with you relocating to a safe spot and logging out, you didn't start the fight, you have no obligation to stick around for it.
Hell yeah I'll log out, rather then give someone the satisfaction of running around trying to kill me with their uber weapons, while most of the time I don't have half of them.
