The perfect hardcore survival zombie settings in your opinion...
I run 2 hardcore survival servers with much content. Everything works fine so far but i am a bit confused how you would set the PVE settings. I use the PvZ mods like customisable zombies and zombie spawn overhaul, so the zombie population is set extremely high and it's almost a death wish to shoot a gun in a city. The problem is, i think it's a bit too harsh if the zombies are fast and also hard to kill (10 hits with a melee on the head).

So now i want to know your personal favorite settings for zombies on a hardcore survival server. You can already read that it should be hardcore and sneaking around is important. Would it be okay for you if the zombies can run/sprint then and are a bit harder to kill or is it better for you then to make them slow (walking) and/or much weaker like 3-4 hits on the head with a melee. Should they are able to smash doors or jump through windows?

The thing is, i want to make the servers as hard as possible without making it unfair.

I played on a PvE server where the zeds were truly deadly. The numbers were crazy.. like you said, firing a gun in a city would bring the mob. Even the VMC usually had 60+ military zeds. The ONLY way to kill the zeds was headshots.. only way. But they had all the zeds set at old school zed speed... slow and shambly.... except those runner zeds.. said they couldnt do much with them for some reason. They could all smash through doors as well.... found that out the hard way. It was literally a Walking Dead clone server. If you have a discord set up.. or have players... ask them what they think about the zed settings.. you know people like different things and is sometimes hard to please both sides..

It's still all wip but we will set up a discord when the servers are ready to go. I think your description fits very well. Slow but hard and deadly.

LOOK, these kinds of servers are my fav. You may not be doing anything wrong. The fact is there is NO big player base for this type of game. The best HC server I played on never had more then 2-4 people on it. If you want to run an amazing HC server, you have to accept that you will never get a big player base. All you can do is provide the best HC server you can. and be happy that the small amount of people who do play and come back are happy as a pig in crap.

We are a very small community. And you will know you are doing a good job if you see players returning. I would love to try or test out your server as the main HC server I play is down right now being overhauled.

As far as things I like. I like less food, less water sources. (not all wells work) Crafting instead of finding. Like knives and hammers and saws and the like. (look into hellretex mods)

I would go with no traders as well.... pure crafting, scavving and looting.

If you want, you can test the servers for now but keep in mind that all is still work in progress. We still don't have edited the types, so there are still many, many weapons and stuff. And don't be shocked by the many mods. Most of them makes the game harder. <: I just don't am a friend of server repacks. It's harder to update mods then and it's a small copyright thing.

But feedback is always welcome.

The servers are following:

"Beyond The Void": Hardcore Survival Winter Chernarus with Namalsk features like the EVR storm and temperature and stuff. Much more zombies but also much more content like zombies, weapons, clothing and stuff and some supernatural things like Designators or the Dark Horde.

"Operation Desert Hawk - Takistan Hardcore Survival": Less ready than the first one. This server is more for PVP players, so more weapons and stuff. Wanted to bring some middle east vibes to DayZ.

We also want to bring our personal lore and story to the servers, that's why there are much lore unfriendly mods on the servers like the Designators or the Dark Horde (with exclusive loot for endgame players).

PS: You still have to join through the DayZ Launcher. The servers are in the DZSALauncher too but i still don't have figured out how to add the feature that you can download the mods through it.

I am no friend with these type of mods. There will be no traders but players are always ready to trade between themselves. <: Also no save zones or stuff. I like the feeling that you are never save.

Livens PvZ mods are great for increasing z difficulty

Medical Attention is also good for making survival more difficult.

Most hardcore survival servers I have played have an abundance of food/bones/water/medical supplies/ammo/repairs/storage.

Balancing up the type file can be hard work and there are servers with vastly reduced loot that makes searching tedious. The trick IMO is to have plenty of loot but little of the loot needed to survive, ie water containers.

Also I love to see loot spawning in a damaged or badly damaged state. There seems something wrong about players in pristine clothing and weapons.

Bag space. I personally limit bags to crafted bags only but there's nothing wrong with rare backpacks. Limiting carry space ramps up difficulty.

More over your servers will remain low pop if it's truly harsh so don't balance your loot table thinking you will get 40 players or more.

Really sad that these servers are so unwanted in the community. It seems most of the players don't know the core of dayz or don't know what is actually is or want to be as they mostly join these pvp primary servers with trader, unlimited stamina and stuff.

It's multiplayer PvP and anything that makes that more difficult is often unwelcome. Survival has become a side show.
Ghost Aug 10, 2022 @ 11:21am
I use PvZ mod have tweaked them to near perfection, 1 shot to head to kill any calibre, a few heavy hits with axe to head to kill, but when shooting chest they take a good amount, also shooting legs makes them crawl, breaking doors is at 3 hits at day & 1 at night, they run just a tad faster than vanilla, PvZ mod is absolutely brilliant and is not only a life saver to the annoying vanilla infected but a game changer.

My server has been live for 2 months and slowly numbers are going up and consistent,

Light RP and tweaking constantly to create a hardcore survival with a good grind and rewarding progression, tough balance for sure but I'd rather it be this way than the 9,000 servers MAXLOOT,100KSTART,BLAHBLAH copy paste servers out there, finding the right server never happened for me so I thought sod it and built my own :george:

@Badanov. Good luck. I hope it works for you.

I've played almost exclusively harsh survival servers for a long time now and I've not found any that are popular.

Doesn't mean they can't be but I find once it becomes a death wish to shoot a gun the server remains low pop.

Most players do want a PvP experience.

I know what you mean about the 100k starting funds though. But even casuals need somewhere to play

@Ranceed,
Thanks man, slowly but surely for sure, spent a good amount of time overhauling chernarus and its looking pretty good so far, very nice custom pvp zones and having a passion for it helps greatly, if anyone is interested I can post the discord :)
