For some reason I can't hear my own footsteps?!

Whenever I am running around I can BARELY hear myself run. Everything else is still very loud and I tried pressing N to change the audio levels but nothing is working. I also have killed myself left a rejoined the server and Also restarted my game completely.

there are two separate volume controls, one for environment and game sound, turn them both up all the way up

You could check Windows audio settings, if using stereo headphones the sound setting should be set to stereo, or whatever kind of headphones/hifi system you are using. (For example surround headset, 7.1 hifi system etc - windows setting should match).
