Why do you still prefer to play DayZ instead of Scum?
As far as I can tell Scum is superior in every measureable way with very few exceptions. More Features, more depth in everything you do, quality of life stuff, Graphics, animations, level of detail when it comes to both ranged and closed combat - you name it. Scum wins on all those categories without contest. There's also a ton of features missing entirely from DayZ and some that DayZ barely touches (like crafting)

DayZ obviously does things differently. On a decently sized server the action begins pretty much from the start, since all players spawn in a relatively small area (at least it seems that way) Also with alot more Zombies there's more PVE involved compared to Scum.
Also the Setting is a bit darker, everything is grey and brown and depressing while Scum is a bit more colorful with healthy forests and lakes. This comes down to taste I guess.

Scum has less PvE and since spawns are entirely randomized PvP happens less as well. Especially from the start. Both are obviously areas the game has to work on.

Whats keeping you in DayZ? Did I miss something?

Edit: I thank you for all the honest answers so far, keep 'em coming. But please try to keep it civil, as my intention is of curiosity, not malice

All I can say, Day Z is still thriving.

SCUM in later months will be quite a bit better than Day Z again if you've kept up to date with the devs on twitter.

Put it this way. If Day Z had no mods, SCUM would be the way to go.

Day Z- PvP, Darker, Tad dated though, Still stuck up arma's pooter in some ways lol

Scum- PvpVe based, Better tone, Map has more variety but very spread out and empty (player count), Far more advanced mechanics with survival and self care etc, weight gain/loss, metabolism, etc. Gun play is HEAPS better and a much more realistic jamming function too.

Day Z- Base building is sort of better

Scum- Base building is modular based (update coming soon to this as well)

Day Z- Vehicles .... LOL

Scum- They actually work, You can drive but hello server lag over 40 pop
(The next update brings RUST like upgrades to your vehicles, Modular building with those too)

Both games are great in their own ways. Both have ANNOYING crafting, that's for sure.

SCUM has better zombies (puppets as they are called) Day Z is still sitting in the ARMA 2 era there.

Regardless, If you want a more PVE focused true to the roots survival game SCUM is it, But it is still PvP heavy. Where Day Z is a more "Okay, Spawn, Go F$$$ them up asap" game lol.

Well said

I get people who've played Day Z since day one are kind of in the "Meh, Nothing beats this experience" mood lol. I was ilke that for some time, Won't lie. I had scum day one, Played it on and off and hated it really. But, It grew on me more as they updated it. I still play Day Z over scum until they drop this years updates they've talked about so much though.

SCUM just offers more to really do if you're with the right people and the right server to an extent. It's kind of an even play ground here. The only thing Dayz offers is of course mods which enable things like black market and drugs yada yada lol Other wise, Scum has all this coming this year naturally, no mods.

Day Z has been a good solid title for years, But it's just time for updates! They've been so behind it's unreal. It does get old and fast too. The fact people love that single map, Chernarous or how ever its spelled (never got it right) lol, I don't get the love for it. I've played it since Arma 2 and its time for a change. WHICH is why I bring this up. I'm glad they're working on Livonia. I actually love that map! It's a very welcome change. I always wished it would pick up more and it finally is. Enough of that same old map over and over.

As for scum and its map? It's not even half way finished and its been noted. So as large as it is, It's only going to offer more later on next year and further as the player count is also increased. Scum is going for a more RPG experience with hints of an MMO style in there some where but not majorly. I welcome this. What I like most about scum is the fact we level up and create a character as we progress in a realistic way instead of assigning traits and skills with button clicks, Ya know? And we have people on squads who are legit built for certain skills and helping out in ways where everyone is actually different from one another.

Day Z does have more intense moments at times though. Mostly due to its darker tone more than anything honestly and its roots from arma did a good thing here for gun play. How ever, Mods quickly ruin this when you're met with things that are just not up to par of how Day Z should be represented. We have mods using sounds and design from 2008 titles and below, I hate that aspect. If Day Z were to really update to the standard of ARMA Reforgers version of Enfusion, It would be a whole new playing field to rival scum in the best way.

Scum is best played with friends on PVE/PVP set up servers with zones for now, And I can say the same with Day Z too. Day Z has long been a KOS type of game and It's beyond annoying any more. Where Scum players are a slightly bit less toxic lol (SLIGHTLY) because Scum requires a bit more help to keep things going. Where Day Z is just keep some food near by and done.

On the topic of food and drink? Scum wins.

Day Z treats this aspect like classic survival games and it shouldn't do this. So, You're thirsty and hungry, You die in 20 minutes? That's what I'd expect in games like 7 days to die and so on, Not Day Z.

Scum, You simply lose weight, Muscle mass and ability to do certain things as well and it takes you like IRL (DAYS) to die as you slowly degrade.

Gun play is the line people want to argue with the most.

I can put it this way, Scum is more along the lines to where it feels like Insurgency sandstorm, Best game I can compare it to really mixed with a hint of squad. The way cover is used, Advanced movement and the adjustable height you can allow your character to move between with the scroll wheel is an epic choice here. Guns are portrayed more realistically and sound so much better than Day Z's to an extent. The way they perform is much better too. And when it comes to immersion, In door combat vs day z's indoor?
Better use ear plugs for real this time, Day Z nailed it but Scum OWNED it here. That kind of realism is what I love, And I mentioned the weapons being jammed and so on, Where scum took it to the next level as you would IRL with jams via multiple areas of the guns and how to fix them in battle. Where day z is just like "Hey bro.. your gun is ruined, Lets smack it"

Day Z PVE is lacking, As is Scums to an extent too. How ever in Scum it's far easier to hunt and track where Day Z is kind of dated and hilarious in that area.

I can't hate either, Day Z stands strong til this day, Scum is right beside it.

Either way, Both are great it just depends with both being in their current stage what style of game play you're in the mood for. It's why I bounce between both on and off.

Clearly you have missed something. Keep enjoying Scum and I'll keep enjoying Dayz. Scum lacks the PVE survival element

Just waiting for SCUM to add the A.I. And roaming NPC's and so on. And few other lil things. And I'm headed back. The only thing that makes Day Z worth it is the modding scene. Other wise its an empty bore.

SCUM is WAY ahead of Day Z in terms of survival but Day Z has.... MODS.. Thats the only reason I play Day Z for now til Scum finishes this next major update.

Day'z post soviet landscape based of a real location make its feel very un game like and immersive. The pve survival and zombies are the thing i care about far more than pvp ingeneral as i see many of these dayz like games and they all focus on the pvp with it being a big thing they feature and advertise where as dayz pvp happens but it never feels like its ment to be the games main attraction but just ends up that way and as such has a no forced feel like its not the devs forcing the pvp but the player base. The way i see things is if the pve isn't solid enough to stand on its own then im not gonna stick around long enough for pvp, as soon as i heard The day before was going to be another pvp centric game i dropped it from my radar. as for scum i have no idea on how good it is but given i bearly hear of it in my circles as someone who is primarly a pve player i assume its nothing to interesting. also dayz has mods galore which carry a big part of its current high playerbase

And this is why I prefer scum better. It's largest complaint is that it's too PVE based currently. People complain of barely engaging in PvP unless its a modded server.

Scum is focused on the RPG side of things and with full blown character stats and health systems, Metabolism, etc Unlike ANY game out there today, It's one in its own. I bounce back to Day Z just to get a bit more engaged in PvP some times, Wont lie.

Both are good but Day Z is only a filler for now for me. Scum has far more advanced weaponry in terms of realism and how things work, audio, jamming, actual correct ballistics, and the way you can control your character is far more than day z can do currently.

I'm pretty sure we don't want to turn this in to an advertisement for another game.... that said, if you're in a DayZ forum trying to drum up support for another game, you're probably not doing it right.

Are the zombies supposed to be part of the pve? I always thought they were there just to complicate the pvp.

Seriously, though, the way DayZ handles PvP is what makes most people play straight PVE, mods or no mods. You can't really base on PvP server, because of the offline raiding... there's basically nothing to be gained by making a base at all. A lot of people I know just bury boxes of stuff somewhere instead of making a base.

Mods can do all kinds of things, of course, but if you have to rely on mods to make a game enjoyable, there's probably something wrong with the game.

I'm only in it for the realistic fishing and hunting. :-P

Because I dont.
I'm genuinely interested in the answers. I had an argument with a friend the other day about that very topic. He pretty much said the darker atmosphere and the action early on outweighs all the advancements Scum has (and ridiculed it as if it was obvious) So I wanted to know what other DayZ players think.

And I have to do it here because it wouldn't make sense anywhere else.
hmmm, we don't usually tolerate "my game is better than yours" type threads but I'll let this stay if folk can be reasonable.

for now.

DAYZ and SCUM are not designed to be direct rivals (at least not from the DAYZ point of view.)

it's also fine for OP to prefer X or Y over DAYZ.

We can't convince folk to love DAYZ nor would we try to.

lastly, if you want to be extra groovy you could play *both* games, or neither.

it's all cool.

I like both to be honest for different reasons, I like the vehicles n the radio stations n stuff in scum. I dont really like it's map I like the eastern european feel that dayz has. i'll probably play scum a lot more in the future as they are adding AI enemies which is what Dayz mod had back in the day and i loved that aspect. They both have things I like n dislike.
Jackie Daytona Oct 8, 2022 @ 11:16am
I wish both games had interactive POI's like turning on the power stations and maintaining them. using the lumber mills using cement plants and working trains, Of course the work involved meaning parts etc would also be welcome. As well I would like the opposite to be available to the ability to sabotage and break such structures once fixed so battles would be fought over actual resources and power structures instead of damn beans or a gun.

Couldn't agree more! That would be solid.

scum is terrible, has the worst networking iv ever seen
Idaho Oct 8, 2022 @ 1:58pm
I think if I were 14 years old, scum would seem like the better game.
SideburnIronleg Oct 8, 2022 @ 2:14pm
If the spinning loot timers in Scum and 7D2D went away, i would try those games again for sure.. plus Dayz rules.
Anonym Oct 8, 2022 @ 2:26pm
I just give tried to give DayZ another chance but this is easily the most boring survival game out there. I have no idea why my friends told me to buy this when all other games are better, I mean I never seen survival with such bad netcode, everything is clunky.
JacEEEBABY Oct 8, 2022 @ 2:39pm
yeah scumn
