Livonia, the rain simulator.
Honestly, it's beautiful, empty, and it rains all the time. *sigh* I've been stuck inside drying, and waiting due to rain now, because the game decided that 15 minutes of rain wasn't enough, and started another cycle. Realistic? Sure. But reality doesn't make the best game. Makes me want to go watch a movie about a zombie apocalypse where it doesn't rain all the time.

Yeah I agree. Rain and night can be your friend. I was playing tonight and built a shelter to do some storage. I went to hit up a med center and come back and the whole area was surrounded. But it was raining hard and I skitted in there between them and did my bizz.

Livonia is a colder wetter climate then Cherno. It always has been. That is why it is so good as a survival server. Just like anything else with this game, you adapt and overcome. I never stop because its raining. Heat buffs and ringing your cloths is enough.

I sometimes slow at night, take care of other business like cooking, mending gear or sleeping. If I am in a town I will use night to get into harder areas. (usually med centers) My fav. server has it a little colder, so rain can get ya sick if your not careful. But that is the fun of it.

Why wait inside? The rain provides excellent cover and is one of the best times to be on the move. If you get cold just make a fire under a large tree to get the heat buff and move on. I don't dry my clothes until the rain stops

Also keep a look out for smoke coming out of chimneys. Its a sign someone is inside drying their clothes.

The only thing stopping you from doing anything is you.

Not me, I will stop 3-4 times during a rain fest to wring dry my cloths, Little less if I am heat buffed as I do not wanna waste it.

I will play today on a sunny weather server, only for variety. :P

Its really rare that I wring my cloths out. Heat buff works well for me. Also I sometimes use a rag torch, or light a broom for heat on the move. Its no good for being sneaky but if all I'm doing is running a good distance then its a great way to stay warm.

Who cares about the zeds?

"Its really rare that I wring my cloths out. Heat buff works well for me. Also I sometimes use a rag torch, or light a broom for heat on the move. Its no good for being sneaky but if all I'm doing is running a good distance then its a great way to stay warm."

I can't think of anything that says "Take the 1400 meter shot" like some crazy running through the map with a broom on fire.

Warmth is not the issue. With this game, you get sick so easily... it's like the developers actually believe all those cliche mangas where the hero gets sick because he got wet.

Staying wet, whether or not you are warm enough will end up with your character sick; it just delays it. It doesn't even make any sense, but it's best to stay dry. What I hate the most is drying out clothes, going out the second the rain lets up, and then having it start to rain again. That and going the whole early part of the game WITHOUT getting sick, only to have some fool that won't pop tet come over and cough next to me. I've got a freaking mask on, but it's still Covid city. Much greater chance if you're wet.

The two most useless items in the entire game? A rain jacket and a dry bag.

It's something of a throwaway comment, and I don't disagree with anything you have said at all.

I also don't wish to derail this thread by going off-topic, but this comment really sums up, in my opinion, everything currently wrong with the game.

The Zeds should matter, they should be the biggest threat in this game. The fact they are relegated to just an annoyance that gets in the way to the point people don''t even care sums up what is wrong with the game and what the devs need to be working on.

this is just wrong. no offense, but learn the game first before making any false claims.

Yeah, I know what it says. But I also know what I see. It SAYS it affects stamina and insulation only (which can lead to hypo), but I don't believe that's it. There's also this from several of the guide sites "Influenza is one of the most common diseases in DayZ simply because it is easy to get. You can catch the flu by being exposed to rain for excessive periods. " The developers have said that if you were sick previously, you have a greater chance of getting sick again if you are subject to wet conditions inside a short period of time. The wiki is hopelessly out of date, of course. But a lot of the information out there is contradictory. Of course, some of the sites are also saying you can raise your temperature by running (which I have also found not to be reliable).

TBH, I have no more reason to think you know what you're talking about that you do to think I don't.

1400m shot at a moving target. You wish. but then you cant avoid sickness and your hiding from the rain because you think wearing wet clothes gives you a cold. :steamfacepalm: BTW tetracycline doesn't cure a cold. Colds self heal when you look after your char correctly.

As for light sources, I use them at night when its necessary, even on high pop servers. I don't get killed as much as I do running around on a sunny day and I don't see people using that as a reason to avoid sunny days.

Truth is none of this matters as you only came here to moan and complain about something thats not going to change. A futile effort but that im sure that won't stop you.

@MachoManRandySavage Larger amounts of tougher Z's would be better along with much harsher environment. Higher scratch rates, more disease chance, blood damage, stamina drain, amongst other things are very possible and exist on some servers. but what chance have they of making it to the vanilla game when players cant handle a bit of rain or cure a cold? They would not be welcome by many players.

well i dont need some wiki entrys to understand the game. i have a fair amount of hours put iinto it.
running boosts your temperature indeed. wet clothes make u cold, being cold makes u sick. not being wet.
its easy to get a cold as a freshspawn, but getting rid off it too. u can avoid and cure a cold by simply boosting your immunity (water, energy, health, blood). running around with half blood and starving wont help fixing any sickness.

Common cold (sneezing) and influenza (coughing and fever) are caused by the same "virus" and are behaving like two overlapping stages of the same disease. You can only catch it if you are cold (light blue and below) while at the same time having a immune system of medium strength and below. The only way to get rid off it is either a treatment with antibiotics (tetras) or boosting the chars "immune sytem".

Like mentioned by Ranceed, there are servers where Zs, diseases and environment matters.
If you ignore these threats on the server i'm playing on, you won't get out of the starting area alive for more than a few minutes. DayZ doesn't have many players who like these threats, harder servers will always be lowpop.
The community would loose many players if all servers would be hard.
