How to unpack a box of ammo (use an item in inventory)

How do you select an item and use it in the inventory? I wanna unpack a box of ammo and can't seem to do so

Unfortunately, you're gonna have to move the box of ammo from your inventory into your hands. Then exit inventory and there should be an icon bottom left "hold left mouse button" to unbox it, same approach as eating food or crafting items in your hand.
A bit more tedious and clumsy compared to the older right-click and select on items but hey...realism?

Alright thanks man, yeah it's a change but, realism I guess. Appreciate the help.

No, not realism as I can look at a box of ammo and have My brain say body open it. Alpha had it right.

the system should show that you select to open it then it goes to your hands, not put it in your hands then you tell the body to open it. It's like saying I can only go Poo When I sit on the Toilet but My body will never tell me I need to go.( Think Hard About This Before Responding(It makes sence for most people with over 120 IQ I work With) as I know people like to through out responses without giving a thorough thought)

Thread is 6 years old…..

Put the box in your hands. Exit the inventory screen. Look at the bottom left of the screen. It should prompt you “Open” or whatever. Hold left mouse to open.
