Black Screen at night
Have an almost pure black screen at night with a moon.

Been seeing people play with nighttimes that look like this.

What do I need to do to actually see at night. No smartass comments like use a flashlight. I use them but I want to have the ability to see at night like you do IRL and not just have a black screen.

The darkness is intentional, we are supposed to be forced to use light sources to survive the night. Change your focus, night is less about running about looting and shooting, more about surviving. As for seeing at night, without light pollution an overcast night really is pitch black. I think general visibility with moonlight and stars should be better though, once your eyes adapt you normally see better than this in those conditions.

Night was not designed to be a black screen per the developers. Night was supposed to reflect what is actually seen when one steps outside at night. I have spent a rather significant portion of my life in areas that have never seen nor rarely heard of electricity and I assure you that even on a moonless starless night it is not this dark. I am not asking for anything other than the ability to play the game as seen in the video that was taken not so long ago. What settings do I need to assure that I have in order to get this done.

Also note "survive" the night is a laughable excuse for the black screen. Theres nothing to "survive" in the game.

That is not my video. The first picture on the screenshot page is what I see. I was wondering how I could see like the guy in the video sees. And yes night time has lasted approximately 3.9 hours vs a 1.3 hours of daylight on the server I am currently on.

This build is darker. You have new tools like NV-Scopes. Flashlights are better etc...
Play daytime when you have no tools for the night.
Nearly each patch tweaks Night time.

So night time will be 0 vis from this point forward unless youre willing to spotlight yourself? Sorry as a bandit who regularly drops bambies at 300 plus meters, you are all bambies, you are screwed now. No vis even though IRL you would have vis.

Further, cant switch servers.

That's the name of the game. Play it, or dont play it. (Such impressive work... shooting bambies, must feel proud of yourself)

Well, way i count it, if you are carrying a rifle/gun of any kind. Youre a threat and threats should be neutralized. Secondly, designing a game that is supposed to be immersive and realistic yet creating 50% of the content without realism is kinda a cop out.

I grew up in the countryside in a fairly isolated house with no streetlights for miles. To get to the nearest bus stop I had to walk on a small forest road and I can assure you, with thick cloud cover, a snowless november or december night was just as black as the DayZ nights are. I couldn't see my hand if I stretched my arm out in front of me. I found my way home by feel and hearing, my eyes were useless and I was always too dumb to bring a flashlight when I took the night bus.

Also, keep in mind that in the DayZ world there is no light pollution. Light pollution from urbanized areas spreads in the atmosphere, making the nights unnaturally bright even in more remote, less developed areas.

Regardless, when there is moon and/or stars, the current DayZ night is too dark, and there seems to be no in-game simulation of the fact our eyes adapt to the dark after some time giving us a wee bit better nightvision. Not good enough to see in nearly lightless conditions, but on a starlit night we should see well enough to move about at least.

As for there being nothing to survive, go aggro a bunch of zeds in the dark and see how it goes. They're not so easy to handle when you can't see well enough to shoot them...

Lol a country boy cant survive. Sorry pal, been in denser swamps than you still had vis past my nose. Been in desert countries without electricity for hundreds of miles....still had more vis than past my nose. Not asking for 100 ft of vis at night with a half moon, just a dozen or so. Like IRL.

This isnt a criticism of the game so stop getting so offended and go back to playing your no vis game. Join me on this high pop and Ill show you why you shouldnt use a light at night.

Forgot to mention, Zeds at night? Really? Theres literally 3 at my feet as we speak. Use the sound my friend.

You can see in-game at night without a light if there is ambient light. Currently the ambient light level is really low, so dont expect to see like clear daylight. Also, no, you cant see when there is no ambient light. Be it ingame or real life. And you should know this. The human eye is only sensitive to the visual spectrum of light (hence the name), and when the amount of this light is below a certain threshold, your brain can no longer create an image out of it and can start guessing things to fill in the blanks. Night is night, and where i come from, night is dark AF if there is no moonlight... and even in moonlight. You might just be used to the amount if ambient light being high due to light pollution

Man, I'm not offended, I'm just saying that without light sources you just can't see. I don't care what desert or swamp you have been to, if you could see there was light. Without light the human eye, or any eye for that matter, just cannot see. If there was light it came from somewhere, either stars or atmospheric light pollution if there were no artificial light sources in the vicinity.

In a dense forest, with a thick cloud cover overhead and no nearby streetlights for the clouds to reflect back - you will get absolutely lightless conditions. Hence I couldn't see my damn feet when walking on that road. That is what is simulated in DayZ, with a cloud cover there are no other light sources available, so it is pitch black.

However, with stars and moon visible we should see better. In-game the stars and moon feel too weak, they should provide better visibility.

Yeah, I don't know about you guys, but I'm playing a video game......like...a video game with zombies....I'm not exactly here to have the "ultra-real feel"....

There's a thing that's called suspension of disbelief, which allows zombies. Doesn't mean everything else should be Fortnite.
