You have to drag food into hand and then hold down mouse 1. Ofc food has to be opened first if its canned.

If canned food:
1) take out your knife or can opener (axe also works) and put it in your hand
2) drag the can to the combine slot in the hand area
3) unequipp the knife (or whatever you used)
4) put the opened can in your hand
5) hold left click to eat

Such a great feature in a game, I don't know how we could make it more tedious?

Pretty much the same way you use to. Except for the fact you can.. idunno. Actually ration and preserve as much as you please?

Yup..you eat and drink as long as you hold the mouse button down...but at the moment it's not advised to preserve something...since we don't have any indicator about how energized and hydrated we are, besides the icon going from yellow to grey, I suggest to eat and drink everything at once...you will last longer that way...and it has the advantage to having to haul the cans around...maybe have two apples and a soda for emergencies...
Of course, this is all subject to change, since UI and mechanics aren't complete/ not all implemented as of now...

The idea that any of these things you would expect working after five years is just crazy talk.
