Loud explosion in the distance

Played on a vanilla community server, so no mods except one or two community tool mods. Walked in the forest and heard an exrtemely loud explosion in the distance. Maybe 2-3km away from me. There was no one on this server except one guy but i don't think that he caused this explosion sound and i don't think that he can make a sound so loud. I am pretty sure a grenade sounds different.

So i thought it's a heli crash or a dynamic toxic zone but i know from videos that these sounds are different. Toxic zones makes different explosion sounds and more than just one explosion as far as i know and i know that you can hear a helicopter if it is a heli crash. Anyway i was running into this direction but there was nothing. No smoke, no zone stuff.. Nothing.

Anyone knows what this could be?

Edit: I checked the players list, i was alone at the moment where that happened. So no player caused it.

its the artillery guns for the toxic zones they go off in all four corners of the map depending on where you are is when or how loud they will be

Well, after maybe 30 minutes i found the toxic zone or better that weird yellow smoke. But i was running a long time since that happened, so it seems that the sound can be heared miles away from your position.

It's all a bit new for me, last time i played the game was 1.12, lol.

could be a crashed santa sleigh depending on the server your on.

Yeah must be the current santa sleigh event, it has a different explosion than the heli or gas strikes. If you are close enough you'll hear the xmas music that also plays around the trees as well, similar to how you hear the beeping of the heli if you're close enough to where it will crash.
