There are plenty of servers that added more vehicles but even then it can be a boring map mostly because of it's size and loot being "all over the place". Chances are that you'll be running for hours without ever meeting someone. In that regard it has a poor balance.
That said there are community servers out there (also my own server) that have rebalanced experiences regarding loot, special events amongst other things to make it more interesting. Still, I believe the overall too-big-of-a-size and lack of interesting locations as well as the "new Airfield" being a terrible location for PvP work against this map.
Namalsk is the "typical" map where the majority of players play in groups and it's the kind of map more suited for "competitive" (or "meta"-gaming) play due to it's smaller size and difficulty. The amount of popularity this map receives makes it a wild card though, and it can be enjoyed even as a solo player, heavily depending on the server (type).
I personally enjoy Deer Isle the most, but only when Boats and choppers are added, because a large portion of the map is water. I love the variety in the terrain and overall has a very unique feeling to it. There's plenty of areas you could in theory use for modding purposes such as adding Quests, Traders and so on to make it even more "unique".
Livonia comes as a close second but unfortunately lacks a lot of the variety mentioned.
I personally like DeerIsle, but it has it's issues with unfinished or polished areas. Players can still fall thru the map in the mountains, and some structures are deathtraps.
That being said I think Chernarus is the most polished, and has the most time/dev done to it.
Namalisk, yeah, I can see why this one is popular. It's well done, I love the survival element, but as others have said, it has kinda just become a bambi-killing-field where squads just grief other players, so yeah, it's just too small. Should have a 20 pop limit or something. Otherwise, it's damn near perfect for survival and realism.

Livonia
I haven't tried DeerIsle yet and haven't played Livonia since it came out so my opinion may change with the bunker stuff they have added over time. I really enjoy maps with an end-game goal to work towards though
A good point, but for me at the moment it's Sakhal as I am enjoying discovering points of interest on the island.
Dude, we'd rather hear from somebody that has few more hours in the game....
Deer Isle (w/ helis and/or boats only)
Bitterroot is nice thus far
The rest? Eh, they all have their pros and cons.
The Bohemia maps seem better fleshed out and balanced well IMO.
I love Deer Isle but it is miserable without helis or boats. Same for any map with islands or lots of water, including Namalsk, but Namalsk is great for PVP/Survival.
Each has their good things and bad things, but again, the official maps jsut seem better balanced, loot wise, survival/pve/pvp etc.
It is highly subjective. From my POV it is the best for solo (professional) players, when it comes to things like atmosphere, base, food, hiding ur car, respawn (distance), survival in general.
After all i really like the summer setting, the forest and dense bushes. I know there is banov, summer chernarus... but Livonia is way more intense!
