Gun and Melee Combat - Returning Player Confusion

Hey all.

I haven't played DayZ since mid 2016. I'm having trouble understanding how combat works again. I had a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to use melee weapons, or even put my weapon up. I finally found out if I hold sprint and click the left mouse key I can do a melee attack, but I have to remain sprinting to do so, I can't figure it out while stationary.

How to I melee attack? And what are the changes to combat when using a gun? I think I remember having to use the space bar to raise/lower weapons before using them, but now all I do it jump. I tried to understand the button configurations for keyboard and mouse, but I think I messed up those buttons when I tried changing them, and resetting them doesn't change them back.

Any help is appreciated, thanks all.

Hold right click to raise any weapon. Shift or mmb to ads when weapon is raised or just tap right click(note, you cant ads with melee weapons!!). When a melee wepaon is raised, attack with left click and power attack with shift+left click. Dodge with the a-d keys and block with s. With firearms, you can use an attached bayonet or whack people with the stock by holding right click and pressing f.

I really get frustrated when acronyms are used. Can anyone please explain "ads" ?
